    1. I'm new to the list.
    2. Leavens Family
    3. I'm new to this list and am anxious to know if anyone out there has links to my family. I have family with the surnames of ELLER and FINN from Hillsdale in Macon Co. The two families merged when William J. ELLER and Nancy Elizabeth FINN married. They had about 9 children, one being my great grandmother, Theora Faust ELLER. Williams's parents are believed to be a Jacob ELLER and mother Elinor WOODS. Not know for sure if they were from Macon Co. also. Assumed so though. Nancy's parents were John Derice FINN who married Mary Elizabeth ALEXANDER. I have further information on the FINN line, mostly names and a few dates. Any connections from anyone would be appreciated. Hopefully I can be some help also. Amy Leavens leavens@msn.com

    3. Dear Betty, The course I took was offered through Zoomnet which is my server. They had it set up with the Ohio University Southern Campus at Ironton Ohio. You might check with them at the URL I have listed below. I don't know if it's offered to the general public. http://www.ohio.edu/~ousc/ousc.htm The course was a very basic one and I still have a lot to learn. However I have discovered that there is a lot of information on learning "html" which appears to be free from the internet. I typed in "learn html" in the search engine of Alta Vista and discovered a lot of good useful information. Probably enough to learn all of the basics. Thanks for your response, Wm. W. 1. Macon County House
    2. Hello Macon County Researchers, Now that I am recovering quite well from my 2 surgeries in Sept., I am back to doing GENEALOGY ! Yeah! With the Holidays coming, which means company, dinners, and lots of visiting, I will try to do my best to work on Macon Counties Records and also my own family genealogy. At the moment I am needing some information of the Macon County House -- for the poor. Does anyone have any information that you would share with me about it? I have found one of our ancesters there in 1880. Thanks so much for your consideration. Barbara Cline Hutchinson

    1. Macon Co. Names
    2. Hi Everyone, Well, after the old computer crashed and down for a couple of weeks. And of course LOST EVERYTHING, I thought perhaps I would send out some names I found among my g-g-grandfathers Civil War pension papers. Perhaps some of the men listed will be of help to someone else's research. My g-g-grandfather MARSHAL A. LYLES served as a private in Company A 52nd Ky. Mounted Infantry, commanded by CAPT. SAMUEL J. RICHARDS. His wife, RACHEL MANURA CRABTREE, daughter of RICHARD CRABTREE & MATILDA (WHITE ?). Married in Feb. 1865 by Justice of the Peace, HALEY YOUNG, Macon Co. Since marriage records were destroyed in court house fire. Those attesting to their marriage were HARLIN LAW and J. A. LYLES . Notary Public on papers filed 8 Dec. 1915 was E. W. HARPER, of Macon Co On papers dated 8 Oct. 1888 on the condition of his health, signed by HEZEKIAH COOK & DANIEL HUNTSMAN. Papers dated 27 May 1912, two witnessed (I assume his signature) were ROXIE HARPER AND ADA HARPER. Physician's affidavit signed by DR. JOSEPH A. CRABTREE, Barren, Ky. (Rachel's brother) Papers dated 24 May 1889 affidavit to his health, and also that they had made a tobacco crop with Marshal in 1866 signed by CALAHILL M. (X) MORGAN. Witnessed by: ROBERT MOORE and WESLEY THOMAS. One single page with: DANIEL HUNTSMAN, 2nd Lt. Co. A. 52nd Ky. Vol. Mntd. Inf. Affidavit dated 15 Dec. 1888 as to Marshal's health, by DANIEL HUNTSMAN. He also referred to them being in Lexington Ky. about April 1864 and Daniel had taken Marshal to the dr. Dr. H. H. ATTER, Asst. Surgeon of the Regiment. Affidavit dated 24 May 1889 by JOHN H. (X) HANES. Wittnessed by: R. MOORE & MAX GATEWOOD. Referred to John & Marshal being in Alabama in the Fall of 1864. Affidavit dated 13 May 1889 by WILLIAM N. (X) COOK. Wittnessed by: D. (?) E. BROWN & DANIEL HUNTSMAN. WM. COOK refers to himself "as a farmer and resides on my farm in Allen Co., Ky and within seven miles of the claimant, Marshal A. Lyles, who resides across the state line in Macon Co. Tenn. and I have so resided & about the same distance from him nearly ever since his discharge." The men listed above all signed their names, except those marked with their X. Anyone else have papers you have acquired with names or little tidbits of information? If so tell us about them. Hope everyone has a nice Sunday. >From the wet red earth of Okla. Twila Lyles Taylor

    1. A VOTE, TO SHOW APPRECIATION FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS
    2. ODE TO A VOLUNTEER Many will be shocked to find when the day of judgment nears. That theres a special in Heaven set aside for volunteers. Furnished with big green recliners, satin couches, and foot stools. Where there are no committees, no group leaders or car pools, No eager team that needs a couch, no bazaar and no bake sale. there will be nothing to staple, not one thing to fold or mail. Telephone list will be outlawed, but a finger snap will bring, Cool drinks and gourmet dinners, and rare treats fit for a king. You ask: Who'll serve these privileged few, And work for all they're worth? Why, all thoes who reaped the benefits And not once volunteered on EARTH.
