Shelta: I like the archived newspaper articles from the Macon County Times you've added - they are very interesting. Would you ever consider adding a genealogy most wanted section to your links on the website? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Shelta Shrum" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 28, 2002 9:37 AM Subject: [TNMACON] Good Morning > I hope everyone is having a good morning this beautiful Sunday Morning. > I have updated the TNMacon website, we have more articles to read on the > front page as well as the old ones have been archived. I found another clue. After this I will stop bothering you. In an e-mail dated 97-04-30 I find the following sentence. "Ethel mentioned a book by Lolita Bissel c 1986 called CLIBORN-CLAIBORNE RECORDS. Good luck, Fred PS Ethel is Ethel Claiborne Collier. Jefferson City, MO.
I have a copy of a newspaper article titled The Claiborne Family. I think it came from the Macon County Library about 1993. It is approximately three fourths of a newspaper page with a picture of the Alfred CLAIBORNE family before 1929. The article was printed in the Macon County Times, Section C page 4 October 19,1989. Estelle Claiborne Driver, 424 Memorial Drive S. W., Decatur, Alabama 35601 compiled the information. The following is on a separate document and I don't know who wrote it. "Newspaper Article on Robertson-Claiborne The following is a newspaper article which was printed in the Springfield Daily News on Friday, Mar. 10, 1961. The article is contained in a newspaper column entitled "Over The Ozarks" edited by Lucile MORRIS UPTON. The article was submitted to the newspaper by Mrs. Aura CLAIBORNE ESTHER of Linn Creek, MO. I received a copy of the article from Mrs. Ethel CLAIBORNE COLLIER." I hope this helps out. I came across it while doing research on David ROBERTSON. His daughter Frances Hunter ROBERTSON married Ousley CLAIBORNE and they moved from Sumner County to Missouri. Fred
There is a book on the Claiborne's/Cliburns in the Macon County Public Library. A few years ago, Duane Claiborne and Faye Shrum, donated one because they believed the first one had disappeared. I don't recall the name but I will almost bet that this is the one everyone is talking about. Mr. Heffron, I am unaware of these books. I have referred this to Randy East, the President of the Society. I only started as treasurer in 1995 so this must have been before this time. I will let you know what I find out. Thanks Tina Short, Treasurer ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Heffron" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 25, 2002 12:32 AM Subject: [TNMACON] Cliborn-Claiborne Records > At one point in time, the Macon County Historical Society was given > several copies of the book "Cliborn-Claiborne Records" by Lolita Bissell > to sell. Hello All. On 07/10/2002 Pattie Tuner, Aaron our grandson and myself left Louisville KY to decorate graves in Franklin KY and Macon County. We started at 10 am and stopped in Smith Groves to feed Aaron and give him a rest. I65 was having work done on it. We then went to Franklin and Decorated Aunt Aline and Uncle Louis Scruggs grave in the city Cemetery. I also took pictures. At this time we begin to see rain clouds. We then took 31w to 109 and went to Portland TN and went on 52 to Macon County. The rain clouds followed us all the way. We turned onto Kirbytown Road and then to Union Camp Road to Aubie Wakefield Cemetery. In honor of Paul Grey Cassetty I put some flowers around the rock in that Cemetery and made pictures so there would be a record of her burial place. We then put flowers on my Grandmother Callie's grave and my Aunt Laura Etta Cassetty Grave spot. Took pictures. I will have the pictures to Shelta for TN Macon soon. We then went accross the road and visited w! ith Mr and Mrs Ray Kenneth Smalling mu cousins. From there we went to Red Boiling Springs and had a picnic at the park in the rain. After the pinic we went back to Franklin KY and visited with my Cousin David Jewel Ramsey and family on Blackjack Rd. We left there and went to Bowling Green and filled up with gas and went to Sonic's for ice cream. We then got back on I65 to go home. Within 4 miles of Park City the traffic came to a stop for 3 1/2 hrs. A simi truck hauling cars wrecked between Park City Ky and Horse Cave Ky and it took us 1 hour from Park City Ky to Cave City Ky on 31w. We got home around 1:30 am. Except for the Simi Wreck the trip was very good. Will have some pictures for all later.
