    1. [TNMACON] Hargis family
    2. Peggy
    3. Celeste: I was thinking that maybe Martha was a Hargis before she married Meador. I went back to the 1880 Macon County census and found two Martha Hargis' listed. One was the daughter of Shadrack and Nancy "Ann" C. Burns Hargis. She was born ca 1870 and married twice - 1st to William Lany Glover and 2nd to Warren C. Cox. Shadrack and Nancy had a son George W. Hargis who was 5 years old in 1880 so he could be the George who Martha Meador is living with. The other Martha is Martha C. 14 years old in the 1880 Macon County census and she is the daughter of Zachariah and Hannah Hargis. I do not know who she married. Sorry I was not much help but I was thinking that Martha Meador was probably living with some of her family and could be a Hargis. Hope you find out who she was. Peggy

    1. [TNMACON] BERTRAM: William BUTRAM, II, White Co., TN Pilgrimage Oct. 26th - 27th, 2002
    2. Anna L Bertram
    3. Autumn Greetings to all BERTRAM or BUTTRAM Researchers of All Spellings !!! This is a reminder of the events scheduled in White Co., TN on October 26th and 27th to honor the Revolutionary War soldier we know as William BUTRAM, I, and his descendants, and to further your BUTTRAM or BERTRAM research. My husband is his direct descendant through William BERTRAM, III, and Nancy STINSON, "Parents of the Wayne Co., KY BERTRAMS". I can imagine a cool, crisp fall day with the leaves turned to bright hues of red, and gold when William BUTRAM, II, age 94, was finally laid to rest in the Bradley Cemetery on the top of a peaceful hill above the Calfkiller River. The date was November 10, 1853, almost 149 years ago. It is fitting that we gather there again this fall, on Saturday, October 26th, to give tribute to him and his family. Those planning to meet us for this event are encouraged to let us know so we can expect you. We will meet in the parking lot of the Sparta, White Co., TN Wal*Mart at 1 P.M. on Saturday, October 26, 2002. We will be on the side nearest the U.S. Bank, formerly known as Firstar Bank. Wear walking or hiking shoes. We will car pool to the pasture where the Bradley Cemetery is located and the gate will be unlocked for us. Be sure to bring your cameras! The next day, Sunday, October 27th, you are invited also to the BUTTRUM Family Reunion in the Community Center at Sparta, White Co., TN. Contact us for details if you plan to attend. William BUTRAM, II, was born in Rowan Co., North Carolina on July 15, 1759 to Margaret _____ and William BUTTRAM, I. On January 29, 1780 he married Sarah PATTERSON in Rowan Co., North Carolina. Their house in Rowan Co. was destroyed by fire after the births of their first four children. They then moved to Iredell Co., N.C., where they remained for nineteen years. Census records show him as head of a household in Iredell Co. in 1790 and 1800. Also, brothers Nicholas and Jacob BUTTRAM had their own households in Iredell Co., North Carolina by the 1800 census. William BUTRAM, II, then moved to Lee Co., VA for about ten years. (An Andrew BUTRAM was there on the 1810 Federal Census and a William BUTTERN {a.k.a. BUTTRAM?} was on the 1810 Lee Co., VA Personal Property Tax List.) William BUTRAM, II, whom I sometimes refer to as "White County William", relocated to Wayne Co., KY about 1815/1816, but spent his last years in White Co., TN. He was in Wayne Co., KY on the 1820 and 1830 Federal Census. We don't know exactly when William moved to White Co., TN but it was sometime between January 30, 1834, when he applied for a pension from Wayne Co., KY, and the time of the enumeration of the 1840 White Co., TN Census on which both he and his son, Willis, appeared. William BUTRAM, II, was still head of the household in White Co., TN. His blind and spinster daughter, Katy, was with him, as was his granddaughter, Mary Louisa. Mary Louisa was a daughter of Willis BUTTRAM, a son of William BUTRAM, II, and Sarah PATTERSON. 1968 - The Sparta Chapter of the Daughters' of the American Revolution placed a Military Grave Marker on the grave of William BUTRAM, II. However, at the time the military marker was ordered the exact location of the grave had not been found. That is the reason the marker shows a wrong date for the death of our William. Farther up the road toward Monterey and on the east side of the road is the France Cemetery where the Civil War hero or villain, Champ FERGUSON, is buried." {This is also where Willis/William Champ BUTTRUM is buried, a great-grandson of Sarah and William BUTRAM, II, who was the namesake of Champ FERGUSON.} Hope to see many of you there! Anna and Fount BERTRAM [email protected]

    3. Sandy. Are you a member of Ancestry.com or one of the other Genealogy websites? Many of them now have the 1930 census available, but at a cost. Your only other option is to order these from the main library in Salt Lake City through the LDS (Mormon) Family History Library in your area, for a small fee and you can look them up yourself on one of their readers. If there is no library in your area, I recommend a membership with Ancestry. com The ones you view online are boring to read, but there isn't any other way to do it. The same is true of using a microfilm reader, but if you find a name, you feel as if you found gold. Good luck.
