Brenda, I am interested in the Claiborne, Cliborn, Clyborne family. The connection is thru Rhoda Cliburn, her mother Sary. Rhoda married Elias Atkerson in 1801 in Bedford County, Virginia. Sary was shown on the permission to marry as a resident of Franklin County. Elias and Rhoda migrated to Smith County, Tn about 1810-1811. The 1820 Smith County census shows a Daniel Cliborn family and a John Cliborn family. The 1800 Tax List for Franklin Co. Va. lists a Daniel Cliborn. I cannot tie Rhoda or Sary with either and am searching for information on them. Hope this helps you, and I hope you could possibly have some information on the family you could share with me. Thanks, John Addison Venable
Surnames I'm searching are: ADCOCK, BANDY, BEASLEY, BLANKENSHIP, BRUCE, CLAIBORNE, CLIBORN (etc), CLARIDAY, CLARDAY (etc), COPE, DALLAS, EDWARDS, HARGIS, HESSON, JENKINS, KNIGHT, POTEETE, RANKHORN, ROARK, TUCK, WEST, and any names that are connected. I'm asking for some help as our computer crashed last week. After getting it back from the shop , I was unable to restore files to Family Tree Maker program. I lost all my information on 2400+ relatives. If you'd be willing to share any info you have on the above I would truly appreciate it. Thanks and have a great weekend! Thanks for the information on Bessie. It is really strange about the Green's. There were no Green families in the Macon County census for 1850-1870. Then there are many Green families in the 1880 census. I do not know where all these families came from or if they were related. Please fill me in on your Green's as my grandfather Thaddeus A. had a brother Wyett B., Abraham Lincoln, and a relation John W. Green living in Macon County in 1880. Celeste: I'm sorry that I haven't seen the name Martha (Mattie) Owens before your posting. The only info I have on my Owen(s) is that my ggg-grandfather was Ambrose and his daughter (my line) was Anna Manora Sad Caroline View Owen. She married Archibald White. The 1850 census reveals the Owen family with Ambrose, wife Jane, and children Manera, Robert and Thomas. The record in 1860 shows children Minerva, Robert, James, Samuel, and Sarah. Then by 1880 Ambrose has remarried, Manora has married, and the little family consists of wife Sarah and child Emmer. Ambrose lived his last years in Todd Co. KY with daughter Manora's family. Wanda: I found much of my Uhles info in a great little notebook in the Smith Co. Library. My great-grandmother was Aura Uhles Porter (husband Floyd Marshall). Aura's father was William Franklin Uhles, and he was a product of Richard Uhles's marriage to Betty Pope (I have nothing at all on her!). Then I understand Richard's father was J. Frederick. If you have more, I'd love to see it! Thanks for any help to further my research! Lisa Nina G. Carter, daughter of John and Cornelia was also married to David R. Rutledge. They had one daughter Selma N. Rutledge (13 June 1902-26 Sept 1992) married to Willie E. Hammock. Nina was his first wife, Fannie was his second and my grandfahers sister Nellie Akins was his third wife, Clara Myrtle Sloan was his fourth and Sallie Florence Smith Gregory was his 5th. According to Mrs. Selma Hammock John Carter and his wife did live in the Westmoreland, Siloam Area. Wish I could be of more help MIchael Meador ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lisa Cain" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 07, 2003 6:42 PM Subject: [TNMACON] Surnames - CARTER > Hi All - > > My main surname for Macon County is Carter. This is one of my toughest walls to break yet. I have the information I need for John Lester Carter, however, it is his father John Carter, and mother Jane Carter. Here is what I know, and would like very much to correspond with anyone researching this line as well. > > CARTER, John Lester Carter, son of John Carter and Jane Carter (b. September 16, 1861 in Macon County, Tennessee, d. March 25, 1946, in Allen County, Kentucky). He married 1.) Corneila Hodges (b. March 1, 1863, d. September 25, 1891), buried at Siloam (unmarked). John was fourteen years of age, when he and Corneila married. John Lester Carter is buried at Hickory Hill in Allen County, Kentucky. > > Children of John Lester Carter and Corneila Hodges are: 1.) Nana A. Carter (b. September 12, 1880, m. Willie L. Ballard on September 25, 1904); 2.) Bertha Wright Carter (b. October 21, 1882, Tennessee, d. January 27, 1956, m. Hattie Dora Farley; 3.) Nina G. Carter (b. April 30, 1885, d. June 25, 1905); 4. Fannie A. Carter (B. May 22, 1886, d. March 6, 1907, m. David R. Rutledge on January 28, 1906); > > > > After the death of Corneila, John Lester married Eliza Miller (b. September 1871, d. September 28, 1941). Children of John Lester Carter and Eliza Miller: 1.) Lea D. Carter (b. September 4, 1895, d. September 5, 1898); 2.) Verna Carter (b. January 21, 1898); 3.) Pearlie Mae Carter (b. June 6, 1909, Allen County, Kentucky, d. October 15, 1992, Allen County Kentucky) 4.) Jewell G. Carter (b. September 29, 1904, d. December 2, 1978). 5. Lester Griffin Carter (b. July 11, 1893), WWI Veteran. > > On John Lester's death certificate, according to the informant, his father was born in Sumner County, TN and his mother was born in Illinois. However, in the 1920 census, it is noted that John Lester's father was born in KY, and mother in IN. This conflicts w/the informant on the death certificate. I obtained a death certificate for one of John Lester's children that passed at the age of 2. John Lester was the informant, and indicated he was born in Macon County, TN. I believe John Lester himself would know where he was born. (I hope)! > > I have obtained community records from Ancestry.com, and all the children born in John Lester's first marriage to Corneila were born in Siloam, Macon County, TN. Since there is not a 1890 surviving census for TN and/or KY, I cannot prove that this family was in Macon County at this time. John Lester moved to and resided the rest of his life in Allen County Kentucky at some point after the death of his wife in 1891. > > I have made no progress with John and Jane Carter. I have been through family interviews, census records, cemetery records, marriage records, deed records, civil war records and posted queries many times. No luck. I am hoping there is a Carter researcher out there who may have the one little key I need to finally locate John and Jane Carter. A middle initial, anything! I do believe Jane, may have been Mary Jane, but I am not sure. Thanks so much for your time! > > Happy Hunting to all!! > > p.s. My Hargis line is through Allen County Kentucky. I know it reaches into Tennessee, however, this is another of my brickwalls, pre 1850s. > > > ==== TNMACON Mailing List ==== > List your Macon County, TN.
