    3. Bobby, as you know this Gregory Family can be a bit confusing. I will try to give you my line as I know it. It seems that I am descended from both brothers, Thomas Sr. & John. My grandfather was Chesley, s/o Thomas (Tom), s/o Major, s/o Jeremiah, s/o John. My ggrandmother was Sarah Sally Gregory, d/o Thomas 'Big Tom'.(Big Tom was the son of Thomas Jr) and Bettie Bry, d/o Bry, son of Thomas Sr. I believe Big Tom and Bettie Bry were first cousins. Did I leave out anyone? Please feel free if you wish to make some corrections. I get totally confused with all the Thomas'. My only connection with the Sloan family is through my Dad's sister Della Sloan, married to John C. Sloan. I knew lots of Sloans growing up in Pleasant Shade, Tn. 1. Helen, BUTRAM, BUTRUM, etc.
    2. Anna L Bertram
    3. Hi Helen! Let me try to answer you one statement at a time. (1.) You wrote: "I have that James Carroll Doss was Marr to Mary Jane Butram and had a son Berry Allen Doss." We both agree that the mother of Berry Allen Doss was a BUTRAM. The Death Certificate for him lists his father as Jim DOSS and his mother as "unknown BUTRAM", place born unknown. Berry Allen Doss was born 17 Feb 1856 - 1858, depending on which document you choose to believe. You have Berry's mother as Mary Jane BUTRAM. Do you have the parents for this Mary Jane BUTRAM or a birth date for her? The only Mary Jane BUTRAM I have was the daughter of Pleasant BUTRAM and his 2nd wife, Harriet (CAGE) BRADLEY BUTRAM. Mary Jane was born about 1859 so she was a peer of Berry Allen DOSS, not his mother. Maybe you have information on an older Mary Jane BUTRAM? Perhaps a sister to Pleasant BUTRAM? I would be thrilled to find one! (2.) You wrote: "Also that Azariah Jefferson Doss marr a Butram, but don't know which one." I am not a DOSS researcher, although I have several in my file because they were closely associated with the BUTRAM family. I show Azariah Jefferson DOSS (1839-1875) married Mary Elizabeth Tooley on 20 Jul 1865 in Muhlenburg Co., KY. This Azariah Jefferson DOSS was the son of Joel L. DOSS and Elizabeth G. BUTRUM. Also I have an Azariah DOSS, born about 10 years earlier, son of James Ayers DOSS and Sarah HUNDLEY. I don't have a wife listed for him. Maybe he married a BUTRAM/BUTRUM? (3.) You wrote: "All buried at Underwood". I have been to the Underwood Cemetery in Macon Co., TN but don't believe I have a list of the burials in it. Wish I did! It might help with some of the relationships. However, Mary Jane "Mollie" BUTRAM, daughter of Harriett and Pleasant BUTRAM, is beside her mother, her grave marked only with a plain fieldstone. I know this to be correct because Leon WOOTEN a native of the area and from this family was with me the day I visited. I believe he is also the one who told me Mary Jane BUTRAM married James FORD. Unfortunately this was years ago before I realized the importance of good documentation. Helen, I really am interested in these BUTRAM and DOSS intermarriages and hope this is not the end of our exploring the relationships together. I want my research accurate and I am sure you want yours accurate also. Let's keep working on this until we are sure we're right. 3. Nita, I made a mistake about the burial place for Mary Jane "Mollie" (BUTRAM) FORD. I said the BRADLEY Cemetery but I meant the Underwood Cemetery with her parents. The Underwood Cemetery is not named for a person but for a community called Underwood. The Underwood United Methodist Church was across the highway from it. 3. Nita, It is my pleasure to exchange information with you on the family of Pleasant BUTRAM (1812-1885) and his two wives. First may I ask the source for a middle name for Pleasant? I have never before seen even a middle initial for him although he did name one son Pleasant Henry and another Henry Elbridge. The < B > name is difficult to spell. Although old Pleasant consistently spelled his name as BUTRAM, some of his children and later generations spelled it other ways. The same name is frequently spelled BUTRAM, BUTTRAM, BUTRUM, BUTTRUM, and many other ways, including BERTRAM for those who were in Wayne Co., KY in the mid to late 1800s. I believe the B in Harriet's name was BRADLEY, her married name by her first husband. Therefore her name should be written Harriet (CAGE) BRADLEY BUTRAM or Harriet (CAGE) B. BUTRAM, not Harriet B. Cage Butrum. (Although I probably wrote it this way myself.) Her first husband was Terry BRADLEY. She used B as a middle initial, probably, because she had children by her first marriage also. I will try to answer your questions. You asked " Do you have the spouse's name for Mary J., Lucy, Rachel A. Bishop Alvin? Also the death date of Lucinda Driver Butrum." Mary Jane "Mollie" BUTRAM married James FORD. She is buried in the Bradley Cemetery with a fieldstone marker that has no writing on it Lucy BUTRAM is believed to have died of tuberculosis before 1860. Rachel A. BUTRAM is also believed to have died of tuberculosis before 1860. However, regarding Lucy and Rachel . . . Either Rachel or her sister Lucy may have married Jim DOSS and given birth to a child named Berry Allen DOSS on February 17, 1856. J. DOSS was on the 1860 Macon Co., TN Census with a child designated as B.A. DOSS, age 2. The child's mother was not in the home and it is supposed she died by 1860. I would like to know for sure which of the girls lived long enough to marry and give birth to a child. Bishop Alvin BUTRAM apparently married Sarah E. Unknown, at least they were living together with her children when the 1880 Macon Co., TN Census was enumerated. I have his death certificate if you are interested. He died July 4, 1919 in Graves Co., Kentucky. It says he was a widower so does not give the name of a wife. Lucinda (DRIVER) BUTRAM, first wife of Pleasant BUTRAM, died of tuberculosis. According to the MACON COUNTY, TN CEMETERY BOOK, Vol. I . . . there is a grave in the Old Puncheon Creek Cemetery on Long Lane in Allen Co., KY that may be that of Lucinda's. The inscription says only "L.E. BUTRUM, d. March 1859". I visited this very neglected and overgrown cemetery several years ago but could not find the grave. It is my understanding much work has been done on it since then. I have not had an opportunity to go back to look. The year (1859) of death is about right for Lucinda's death and I believe that is where she is buried. The distance between this cemetery in Allen Co., KY and the Underwood Cemetery in Macon Co., TN is not far although in different counties. Years after Lucinda died and Pleasant remarried he gave the land for the Underwood Cemetery and his was the first burial there. I really would like to communicate with you directly and exchange more information on this family. Please get in touch with me. Are you a descendant of Pleasant BUTRAM? If so, by which wife? 3. Bobby, I show Vallee Bell Whitley is the sister of Virgil Whitley. I also have other sisters listed: Flossie, Spouse Albert Kiser Mamie Della Is this correct? Vallee Bell married Patrick E. West with one child, Leon. I have Emory Cyrus Whitley (brother to Maggie Della Whitley Nixon, my husband's grandmother). He married Hettie Lee Austin, Child: Alma Lee Whitley, 14 Mar 1913. 3. Sue, I don't know if these Loveladys are part of my Lovelady line. Peter Shrum and Sarah Lovelady Shrum are listed on the 1860 Macon County, TN Census but are not on the 1850 Macon County Census. The 1850 Census shows Sarah Lovelady as being born in SC. I have not tracked my Loveladys to SC as yet. Sorry I can't be of more help. 3. Anna, Yes, Mary J., Henr Elbridge, & Nathaniel are the children of Pleasant Henry and Harriet B. Cage Butrum. James David, William Thomas, Lucy, Rachel A., Benjamin Allen, Jacob B., Pleasant Henry, Jr., John Jackson & Bishop Alvin are the children of Pleasant Henry & Lucinda Drive Butrum. Am I spelling 'Butrum' correctly? I notice you spell your name differently. I have the 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910 Macon County Census Books, also the "Macon County, Tennessee History & Families" book. I am still going through all of this material. Do you have the spouse's name for Mary J., Lucy, Rachel A. Bishop Alvin? Also the death date of Lucinda Driver Butrum. Thanks for any help you can provide. 3. Bobby, I am not sure. I have a John Culbert Lovelady (Jun 1860, Simpson Co., KY; M: Josephine Lowry in 1882 in Sumner Co., TN) in my Lovelady line but they are mostly from Sumner County, TN & Simpson County, KY (some migrating to Texas). This John Lovelady is the son of Aaron Lovelady. I have not yet tied them to the Macon County Loveladys. Thanks.
