Hi everyone, A very nice person shared this information with another e-mail list I belong to. It helped me a lot, so I asked his permission to share it with the other lists I belong to. He has kindly given his permission to share it with everybody, so I have combined the information from all of the messages and am posting it on all of the lists. I hope it helps someone. Brenda Subject: [TNMONROE-L] Marriage Records of Monroe Co., TN can be viewed on LDS Web Page Resent-Date: Fri, 24 Nov 2000 09:06:51 -0800 Resent-From: TNMONROE-L@rootsweb.com Date: Fri, 24 Nov 2000 11:05:35 -0600 From: "Richard Cottrell" <rjc@web-access.net> To: TNMONROE-L@rootsweb.com You can access the Marriage records of Monroe Co., TN on the LDS web page. The records are the transcribed version from the microfilm of Monroe Co., TN. Logon on to the LDS web page: http://www.familysearch.com Once the page appears you will see four tabs: Home, Search, Share, Library Click on the 'Search' tab. Then a page will appear and to the left you will see: International Genealogical Index, click on this item. Once the next page appears then do this:Where it says 'Last Name', enter the surname you wish to find. Where it says 'Region', click and display 'North America' Then where it says 'Batch Number', then enter this: M519561 Then just below that click the 'Search' button. Now depending the surname you entered what will appear on the next page is anyone and everyone by that surname that married in Monroe Co., TN from the years 1838 to 1883. If you have a surname that is commonly mispelled, then do the process over again, but, don't enter a last name, instead enter a first name, then the region, then the batch number. What you will get when the page appears is anyone and everyone by that first name that married in Monroe Co., TN from the years 1838 to 1883. It is that simple. These records you are viewing are not what an individual submitted, rather, they are the actual marriage records taken from Monroe Co., TN that were transcribed from the microfilm. Now if you have other counties in Tennessee that you would like to view then here is what has been found so far: Tennessee Counties with Marriage Records on LDS web page: Benton M519021 1838-1873 Campbell M519041 1838-1885 Carroll M519071 1838-1860 Carter M519063 1796-1860 Chester M510201 1891-1895 Claiborne M519091 1838-1868 Cocke M519111 1877-1884 Davidson M519142 thru M519144 1838-1882 Dekalb M519161 1848-1880 Dickson M519171 1817-1865 Fayette M519193 1875-1883 Franklin M519201 1838-1885 Gibson M519211 1827-1843 Greene M519241 1780-1855 Grundy M519252 1886-1894 Hamblen M519264 1892-1895 Henderson M710581 1893-1895 Henry M519311 1868-1877 M519312 1877-1885 Knox M519415 1793-1860 Lawrence M519441 1838-1885 Lincoln M519461 1838-1885 Loudon M519471 1870-1885 Madison M519481 1838-1871 Marshall M519501 1836-1883 Monroe M519561 1838-1883 Montgomery M711114 1885-1889 Obion M519592 1868-1885 M519593 1886-1887 Perry M519613 1886-1895 Robertson M519654 1886-1890 Smith M711313 1860-1873 Sullivan M519711 1863-1885 Sumner M519729 1840-1849 Tipton M519751 1840-1885 Unicoi M519761 1876-1885 Union M519771 1864-1885 Washington M519801 1787-1865 White M519831 1838-1885 Williamson M519841 1800-1866 Wilson M519851 1802-1815 Van Buren M519871 1840-1885 Now if you want to know if other years exist for a county then try going up or down with the last number of the batch number and it may yield more years for a county. Davidson, Henry and Obion counties give you an example. Also if you have doubts about the info, then when you check for someone and the page appears, down at the bottom of the page it will say: Batch Number Years Source Click on the source and it will show you exactly the source of that info. Give it a try, it does work, and it is for real. Richard If you like you can go to this web page: http://www.cottrellweb.com It has 29 states listed and many of those states has an IGI tab which one can view and find counties in other states. The info is there to share and hopefully help someone find a connection with their families. Sincerely, Richard rjc@web-access.net The LDS page doesn't list the batch numbers according to the states, as a matter of fact they don't even mention anyway to access the marriage records. If they do, I have not found that info. So I and other researchers keep looking for the numbers. The way we locate them is by using a common surname and methodically going through each county in different states and finding out if there is a MXXXXXX number with that county. The MXXXXXX type of number is the only one that is an official copy of the microfilm of a counties marriage record. So I keep looking, hopefully more numbers will be found.
