Efforts to Preserve Loudon County Cemetery Receives Award from East Tennessee Historical Society An effort to preserve a family's memories and a community cemetery has earned the East Tennessee Historical Society's prestigious Community History Award. Brenda Prater Sellers received the award for her efforts in organizing the clean-up and preservation of the Prater Family Cemetery in Loudon County. Kent Whitworth, director of the historical society announced, "We are pleased to present our annual Community History Award to the Brenda Prater Sellers for her dedication to the preservation of family heritage and regional history through the restoration of the Prater Family Cemetery. Through her efforts to organize Prater descendants and other, Brenda has ensured the legacy of her family will remain visible for generations to come. Her efforts remind us the value of our past and the need to preserve our collective memory." The ETHS Awards of Excellence were created in 1984 to recognize superior achievements in the preservation, interpretation, and promotion of East Tennessee's history. The ceremonies, held Tuesday, May 16, at the Riverfront Tavern, in Knoxville, marked the 17th annual presentation of the awards.
