    3. This is exactly what I had to do-- you may also need to check your internet browser settings and make ancestry.com a "trusted site" under security settings in order to download files from them.  su3mk13@sbcglobal.net ________________________________ From: Marleen Van Horne <msvnhrn@jps.net> To: tnlincol@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, October 24, 2009 10:07:35 AM Subject: [TNLINCOL] Downloading images from Ancestry I download a lot of images from Ancestry, this is how I do it, perhaps it will be of use to the rest of you. I am using Windows Vista and the latest Firefox browser.  A while back, there was a problem using Firefox, but that has been corrected.  You do need to download the viewer from Ancestry.  This has never caused a problem on my computer.  During the problem with Firefox, the viewer did not download, but it did no harm to my computer. I have created a folder called Downloads.  Initally, I downloaded everything there, but it got so big, that I recently broke it up by making subfolders for each surname.  I also have a Miscellaneous folder, because I often look up census records for others. When I want to save an Ancestry census record, I click SAVE on the Ancestry page.  In the next window, I click SAVE TO MY COMPUTER and CONTINUE.  This brings up a Save Box from Vista.  I click through the folders on my computer until I find the DOWNLOAD folder, and the folder for the surname I am researching. When I have the right folder, I name the file as follows: Year State_County Name of Head of Househould It looks like this: 1930 CA_LosAngeles Roscoe Montgomery Van Horne That way I can always find what I am looking for. Once the file is named, I click SAVE. Hint:  The files you cannot find are probably under USERS>YOUR NAME>TEMP.  When I was not able to use Firefox, that was where the images were saved to.  I then had to move them to my download files. You can do this by clicking of the MS symbol on the bottom of the screen.  Then click on Computer.  This brings up a tree of your folders and files.  Click to the one where the image was placed.  Then open another COMPUTER window and click to the folder where you want to save the image.  You can DRAG and DROP it from one screen to the other, or you can do a Control-X and a Control V. I hope this is clear enough.
