Hi- Had a few responses stating that this Nancy Halbert was his first wife. If this is true then can anyone explain the following: * If she was born in 1810, her age on the census should be 39 or 40. It is 29. I'd have to see the original census to see if this was misread. * Why isn't she listed directly after Pleasant like most wives? She is listed way towards the bottom after his children. I believe at this point Nancy is dead (although I was told she died Aug 1850). * Who is the Mary Smith age 68 listed in the household. I was thinking she is related to his mother? * Could Nancy Halbert be his niece? I had assumed she was his sister but I just read that he had one sister, Martha, who died young.

It is true that Nancy Crawford was his first wife. The 1850 census was taken on Oct 25, 1850 and she died Aug 5 1850. I looked at the census copy and her age is 39. When compared with Pleasants age of 38 the "3's" are the same. I wonder if they added her on when they found out she lived more than 6 months of the year or was alive when the census was supposed to be taken.
