    2. I agree with Julia the census serves many purposes and the more clues left for future generations who begin their family research the better. I care more about that and full birth date is important. It even asks for your phone number. Wants to know if you own, mortgage or rent. Most of the questions are in line with what was on previous older census. I fail to see what the exact phone number has to do with anything. Just ask whether or not a phone is in the home, like they did a radio in 1930. They want full birthdate for head of household. Not sure how all the questions have to do with redistricting. > From: anneokle@sptc.net > To: tnlincol@rootsweb.com > Date: Mon, 1 Mar 2010 17:02:34 -0600 > Subject: Re: [TNLINCOL] 1890,1930 & 2010 Census > > Then they should only ask one question and that being how many occupants in > the home. > Grace > > -------------------------------------------------- > From: "Julia Molitz" <jmolitz@cox.net> > Sent: Monday, March 01, 2010 12:59 PM > To: "TNLINCOL" <tnlincol@rootsweb.com> > Subject: [TNLINCOL] 1890,1930 & 2010 Census > > > List members, > > > > Let us not forget what the census is for. Participation is required by law. lder censuses did not have forms to mail in; information was collected by oor-to-door enumerators. The enumerator arrives and only a 2-yr-old boy is at home. Ask him or come back? That's why I question ANY old erson's age if it ends in a zero or 5---sounds like estimating. .. given dental care in the old days (many people toothless from middle age on), iteracy, and accents, the enumerator spelled names as best as he could.
