I am trying to connect some Hix (Hicks) lines of Bedford Co. Does anyone know about the ancestors of Thomas Isaac Hix, the father of Edward Roy Hix (Hicks) of Shelbyville? I have talked to Ed's daughter, Margaret, and I am trying to connect with my line of Hix, which is from William Penn Hix. I know how Margaret and I are connected through the Ervins of Moore Co. Thanks, Maxine.
I have a "little explored" connection with the Hix(Hicks) family that someone on one of these lists may know something about. It is through the Stanfield family.... My maternal grandmother, whose own mother died of complications due to childbirth when she was about 7 years old, always spoke in very glowing terms of "Uncle Ben Stanfield." She was allowed the honor on naming her dead brother, the child whose birth led to complications that took the life of their mother, Lewis Stanfield Brown after her esteemed uncle. (Great uncle - he being her father's uncle) Benjamin Stanfield's sister Clementine married Robert Alvin "Bob" Brown, the youngest son of Jesse Brown of VA who brought his family to Bedford County TN in the very early 1800's. Bob Brown lived and was found dead near the Whiteside Community of Bedford County about two months prior to the birth of his only child, John William Brown, in 1854. Young Clementine died soon thereafter, leaving John William Brown an orphan. Uncle Ben Stanfield took John William Brown to raise having, I believe, 3 children of his own. Ben Stanfield was a Leuitenant in the Confederate calvary during the Civil War and his name appears on a monument to veterans of that war near the center of Mulberry, in what is now Moore County TN. Ben Stanfield lived in Bedford County, Lincoln County, and Moore County at various times of his life as documented in census records. He lies buried in the old New Hope cemetery in Bedford County TN, sometimes known as "Hastings Campground" as referred to in the Bedford County Cemetery Records by Helen and Tim Marsh. Ben Stanfield is buried among members of the Hicks-Hix family. I believe one of his daughters may have married a Hicks-Hix, and another daughter married a Stone and lived in Rutherford County TN, as she later inquired about her father's civil war service from the state of TN. Does anyone know anything about any of this and any of these family connections? According to the Book, "Frosts and Related families of Bedford Co., TN." by Wright W. Frost. Page 284 lists Ellen Hix, eight child of Demarquis Dews and Malinda Stewart Hix was born July 13, 1836 and died of typhoid fever on August 30 1855. On another date probably in 1854, she married Thomas J. Stanfield, whose birth and death dates are not known by the writer. To this union was born one daughter, Lucinda C. Stanfield,.....She later married Christopher Colombus Hix, a half first cousin. Pat -----Original Message----- From: Donnie F. Pat - This Thomas J. Stanfield I believe was Ben Stanfield's older brother and, without my material in front of me, I believe their father was W. W. Stanfield. Again, if I remember correctly I believe Thomas J. Stanfield moved to Chattanooga and may have died there many years later. Maxine - I appreciate your answer but William Ware Brown does not ring a bell - may be another set of Browns and there were several.
