With Decoration Day coming up I would like to take this time to urge everyone who can to contribute to the Jackson County Cemetery Fund if you can afford it, only a dollar or two if nothing else. As much as I would like to be there to help cleanup my health says no, I figure the least I can do is contribute money. There are many other old cemeteries in Jackson County in urgent need of clean up and conservation among them the Kirby Cemetery on Backbone Ridge where Cindy Swagler tells me there has been an on going logging operation that may be damaging the cemetery. Some of Jane Gullatt Kirby's children are buried there as is her husband John Parks Kirby. Another in need of cleaning off I think is the Pauper's Cemetery on Poor House Mountain. Once these old cemeteries are gone, they are gone forever it would seem. Unfortunately with urbanization some are simply being bulldozed even though in every state it is against the law. Many, many more are being overgrown with trees and bushes and are forgotten. Clay -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yahoo! Groups Links a..
