Julia, I visited Fayetteville in Lincoln County, TN once but it was on a Sunday and nothing opened. Thanks for the tip of available resources and the times opened. Now I can plan a trip up to Lincoln County and Know what hours I can access Genealogy data. Looking for Johh Couch Sr, Jr. Thomas and Jesse Couch possibly there in Lincoln County ca 1807-1808 prior to their move to Madison County, MS Territory from 1808-1820. Robert H. Couch Auburn, AL -----Original Message----- From: Julia Molitz [mailto:jmolitz@cox.net] Sent: Tuesday, April 05, 2005 12:57 AM To: TNLINCOL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [LCT] Researching in Fayetteville Joy, The only things you can find at the court house in Fayetteville, TN are deeds and wills. Yes they are indexed. They charge $1.00 each for deeds and same for wills. However make sure the deed you want copied is the one they are copying. Take a look at the book before they copy. I did not do this and found I had some deeds that I did not want. Believe the court house is open at least by 9:00 AM and might close by 5:00 PM. Think about going to the Archives for if there are probate records they would be there even if there is no will. The Archives also have marriage certificates and bonds. Even if there was no will there may be probate records. The Archives are only open Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Let me know what name you are looking for a will and I can tell you if there is one or not from 1810-1921. Also there is the Fayetteville Public Library that has a very good genealogy department as well as the LCT Genealogy Society which is not far from the Archives but they are only open on the week end. If you are coming from a long ways you can contact the President or other officer and they may be able to make arrangements to have it open for you during with week. Robert, I can only tell by my book if there is a will for someone that died in LCT between 1810-1921. There are no COUCH wills. However there should be probate records at the Archives. The hours that I posted for the Archives were good last June when I was there. The problem is they do not have a phone or email service. Something I forgot to mention, have you looked at War of 1812 records on your men? I ask because it seems a lot of them went with Jackson thru that area during the war, then as soon as they were released about May or June of 1815, they took off that fall to move to MS territory......a lot of them made the move 1815 - 1818 or so. I have Sistler's index of Tennesseans in War of 1812 and found 13 entries for Couch surname for enlisted men.... 7 for John 1 for Jonathan 1 for Thomas no Jesse but there is a James I did not find any Couch in officers listing. I you want more info let me know.
