There seems to be a lot of activity on the LCT site so I thought I'd again ask for any connections to my elusive Hiram Carrigan line . Hiram b ca 1813 in NC moved to LCT via Madison Co Al before 1860 with his children Joseph G., William R, Cyrus H ,Susan A, Eliza Ann, and Josephine. Joseph G. my GGGrandfather m Frances E. "Fanny" Higgins and lived in Lincoln Co until his death in1900. Susan married George Higgins and had many children. The others moved away after marrying. William H. McLaughlin b 1820 In Davidson Co came to LCT prior to 1850, having married Margaret Eskridge of Rutherford Co in 1845 and had six children, Henrietta, Susan Adelia, Molly, Andrew Martin, James B and Margaret. My GGrandfather was Andrew Martin who married Emma Carrigan, daughter of Joseph G. Their children were Joseph Martin, William Hart, Fanneil, Robert Taylor and Otis H. I would very much like to get in touch with any of these descendants and have never found a single one in 15 years of searching. Can anyone help? Thanks much. Jo
Hi Jo. I looked at 1880 census for Lincoln Co TN in Fayetteville. Hiram Carrigan born ca 1811, age 69 in 1880 census. Married. Head of HH J.G. Carrigan of Ireland. Mother also born in Ireland but evidently deceased by 1880 as she is not living with her husband in this census. In 1880 census, Fayetteville, LCT ALSO so we know above is not Hiram's son. J.G. Carrigan [ must be Jr?] 544 b AL father b NC ?? mother b TN??? Children; Emma 19 b TN B.V. 16 TN female Hiram FATHER, 60 born NC,[ both parents born Ireland]. F.B. Carrigan , mother 64 b TN. [father b TN mother b SC] William Fanning other male mulatto 14 TN-waiter. Letty Allen, cook , age 20 black Since both of above censuses list Hiram, [son and head of household] -it appears to me that Hiram was living with his father until he died and then was listed elsewhere as Head of his own household. What do you think? This is from the census, not someone's guesswork **** Heritage Book of Rowan Co NC, article no 317 Carrigan Family The Carrigan family of Rowan Co can be traced back to Irish immigrants, James Carrigan of Cootehill, County Monaghan, Ulster, Ireland. James married Isabell Borwn ca 1750. They left Ireland for the new world in 1754/5. Thier two oldest children were born in Ireland, the third probably born in Ireland, but the fourth definitely was born in Lancaster Co PA. The fifth and all teh rest were born in Orange Co NC. James was born ca 1716 and died 8 Deb 1793. He is buried at Coddle Creek ARP Church in Iredell Co NC. Isabel Brown was born ca 1726. She died after 1801 and is presumed to be buried at Coddle Creek too. Their children were; 1. Jane b 1751 md Samuel Pickens 2. Rebecca b 1753, md Samuel McCullough 3. John b 1763, d 31 Mar 1822 md Martha Clarke 20 March 1790. James II's marriage record has never been found so Margaret's surname is unknown. James named 5 children in his will; 1. James Jr.[IV] b 1793, d 1 Jan 1836 md Jane Fleming 2. Robert 3. John b 31 Mar 1794, d 15 April 1863,md Sarah Carothers 4. Margaret b 1810, d 25 pril 1871, md Joseph Godnight 7 Feb 1837 5. Mary md James S. [Van] Pelt 10 Oct 1821 Another on LCT site is researching the Van Pelt family. Above James S. VanPelt has his name listed as Van being another middle name. Court clerk misunderstood writing in will??? This site goes on with the family descendants of above families. Your Hiram surely is a son of one of above children?? Check Iredell and Rowan Counties records. 1870 Bedford Co TN census HH 66 Hiram Carrigan 60 b NC Frances 54 b TN Louisa 25 AL Josephine 22 AL Iverson Randolph 72 b SC William Carrigan 32 school teacher. 1850 Dist 34, Madison Co AL Census HH 369 Hiram Carrigan 36 NC Blacksmith Frances 33 TN Joseph 15 AL William 14 Cyrus 11 Susan 9 Eliza ?
