If anyone on the list has come across William Yerby COATES, b. 1861 in Lincoln Co. TN(17th Dist.), son of Thomas Coates and wife Mary(Stewart)Coates, please contact me. He last appears in the 1880 census in his father's household, but from that point on, I have found nothing. I do have a recollection that someone thought he might have been sent to the TN State Penitentiary, but that may or may not be anything more than speculation. Better yet, if someone knows about a way to access(on line, preferably)the records for the TN State Penitentiary for the period c. 1881-1900, I would appreciate hearing from you. Regards, Larry
