I'm wondering if my John Guthrie born @1771 in VA married to a Jane born @ 1780-1790 might be a brother to your Robert? According to Goodspeed's History of TN John & family settled at the site of Dance & Waggoners mill about 1820. His oldest daughter Elizabeth was born 1800 in NC and married a BAxter. His oldest son James C Guthrie had to have been in TN prior to 1818 as he enlisted in the 20th R Mounted Gunmen against the SEminole Indians. So it's possible that that John was also in TN at that time but perhaps in a different area. Tyring to figure out who John's parents were has been a needle in a haystack ;-) mary
