    3. The "Confederate Veteran" was a small magazine that was published for veterans. My great nephew sent me copies from two different ones that contained members of my McKinney family. One was in 1912 when my grandfather , John J McKinney, died, and another written about 1900-1901. The articles were both written by my grandfather's brother-in-law. His name was A H MCALLISTER, a Dentist from Blue Mountain, MS. The earlier article was written about the McKinney "boys" serving in the Confederacy with him, and about the death of their father, William H McKinney. William McKinney had been stopped by the Yankees and ordered to take an oath of alligence, which he declined to do. They shot him and beat him and placed him in a military prison in Memphis, TN. The name of the prison was the "Irwin Block Prison". I've been told it was such a bad place that when Lincoln was informed about it, he closed it down, or made changes, etc. I would like to see more of these. I believe my nephew told me he had bought copies of these old magazines. Dortha McElroy Greenlee
