In the book, Westward We Go, by Thomas N.Andrew, a group of families migrate from the Albemarle Pct area of NC (the upper East coast of NC, around Chowan County). These families were all most likely Quaker,(at least we know the Webb line was Quaker) so I don't know how the loyalty went during the Revoluntionary War. From an email from a cousin: "who found a handwritten 1875 quill ink pen book, entitled "Westward We Go" by a Thomas N. Andrew at a Quaker Historical Library in Edenton, North Carolina (it is apparently hand written and the only copy of this book that exists) that details a group of families from Ablemarle County, NC (including Webbs, Bowles, Blaylocks, Reas, Evans, and Wilkersons, among others) who went west in the 1810's. A James Webb (b. 1770) who married a Susan Brinkley (died before 1838) went to Lincoln County, Tennessee. This is apparently the one that I found who in 1819 bought the land Hiram lived on later in Lincoln County....James and Susan had a few children whose dates were provided, all born in Albermarle Precinct of NC: Hiram Webb born 1797, Joseph Webb born 1798, William Webb born 1799, Mary Webb born 1801, and Thomas Webb born 1802. The families split up when they left NC and some groups went to Livingston, Kentucky, some went to Sevier County, TN, some went to McMinn County, TN, and of course some went to Lincoln County, TN. It was also recorded in the book that this Hiram Webb, son of James, was killed in a mill accident." I hear that this book is being transcribed by the LDS church, not sure of when it would be complete. I'm very interested in finding out the names of any other families traveling in that group. Sorry if I've sent this on to you before, sometimes it all runs together! Thanks for replying; I just wish that I had had the time to write down that brief comment about loyalist immigration to LCT......my Coat(e)s line appears to have been in Edgecombe and the area around Pasquotank Co. before coming to Rowan. There are some hints that some of them were Quakers originally before arriving in Rowan. However, don't have anything in the way of hard evidence that my William Coat(e)s, who d. in LCT c. 1829 or so was ever a Quaker OR served during the RW....he was born about 1745 and some of his relatives by marriage were involved in the Regulator Rebellion back in NC before the RW. All I have are suspicions that he was a loyalist, nothing else. Thanks again; I will keep looking and will keep your note in mind.
