    3. Your Jones Rogers was in Lincoln Co., Tenn in the 1820 census living next to Isaac Rogers, Absolom Rogers thenBenjamin Beggarly and then Joseph Rogers. Next to Jones Rogers was living Sarah Swan. Sarah Swan and Jones Rogers wife Elizabeth were sisters. They were from Laurens Co., So. Car and Jones Rogers was there a had a power of attorney from Sarah Swan to act in her behalf in the settlement of an estate from Alexander ( I think that was his name but will have to look it up to be sure) Henry. And I am sure he would be representing his wife as well but we did not find that mentioned. Jones Rogers was still in Lincoln Co. Tenn in the 1830 census and he then went on to Illinois. I do not find Jones Rogers in the 1840 Tenn census. I am a direct descendant of the Joseph Rogers that was living next to them in the 1820 census of Lincoln Co. Joseph is my gr gr grandfather. I have just checked our census here in Greene Co and do not find him . There is a burial in the Mt. Comfort cemetery here and I think it was either the son or grandson of Matthew, My grandparents and gr grandparents are burried in the Mt. Comfort cemetery and I grew up about three to five miles from there. We will have to do more checking and get back to you. As quick as I get time I will run out to Mt. Comfort and see what I can find again. I do not know what the whether report is for Saturday--that is the first day I will be off work and if it is not too much weather maybe I can get out there then. I am almost sure the Jones Rogers that was in Phelps co is the parentage of these Rogers that are here. We have not ever been able to place them with our family here. In 1822 I think it is the right year Isaac Rogers is selling land to Jones Rogers in Lincoln Co. Tenn. In 1821 Isaac is selling land to Absalom Rogers and the total of these two sales by Isaac represents land that Isaac bought--it think it was the total of what he bought. In 1830 our Joseph as in Bedford Co., Tenn and then he and his brother-in-law Hosea Mullings came to Green Co., Mo. about 1835. The Rogers that were there together in Lincoln Co. all were born in So. Car and I have reason to believe in Laurens Co. but I am not positive of the proof that it was Laurens Co--however they were born in So. Car. Would you care to give me your telephone number and I could call you and discuss these Rogers. If the Isaac Rogers is the one in Laurens Co., So. Car in the 1790 census he had three boys and three girls. In the 1800 census he had five boys and three girls. I believe one of the boys born after 1800 was the Absalom that was next to him in Lincoln Co. Tenn. If our Joseph was a son then he is one of the boys that was born before 1790 for our Joseph was born in April 6 of 1788. He served in the war of 1812 from Lincoln Co. Tenn entering the war in Oct. 1813 and was discharged in Jan 1814. He died here in Greene Co May 3, 1851. He and his wife Nancy Mullings Rogers are burried at Union Grove cemetery in Polk Co., Mo just across the line from Greene Co. Joseph and Nancy's children were James M. born 1819\ William Carroll born 1820 Greenberry born 1821\ John Hardin born 1824 (my gr grandfater) Samuel E. born 1826 Thomas J. born about 1830 Hosea M. born about 1833 Martha Elizabeth born 1839. I think there was one that died young and he is buried at Union Grove and I think his name was Stephen Bedford--I would have to check the records to be able to give you an absolute on this. We have searched for 40 years trying to find the parents and siblings to our Joseph. This may be one of the siblings. Thank you Phoebe Rogers Lemons PS I have a sister that is doing our family and has quite a bit of the information in her data base. She lives in Tulsa, Ok. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joan Howe" <joanhowe@earthlink.net> To: <TNLINCOL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 19, 2005 10:23 AM Subject: Jones Rogers or Rodgers > Greetings, > > I am researching Jones Rodgers (Rodgers) who lived in Tennessee, Illinois, and Phelps county, MO in early 1800's.
