Vicki When was Andrew Newton MOORE a minister at Mt. Hebron? My James Thomas MOORE and his wife Amniah BELL MOORE joined Mt. Hebron in 1860, along with their son James John MOORE. James John MOORE became a Cumberland Presbyterian minister and attended "Camp Blake", a seminary of sorts for Cumberland ministers. Working with Robert, I am looking at Andrew MOORE who married Kindness MNU as being the father of my James Thomas MOORE. Hebron church for a time. I have copies of some of those session minutes from the time he was there, thanks to Julia on this list. Andrew Newton and his family (wife Sarah Isabel Pylant) left Lincoln Co. and went to DeWitt Co. Illinois where he worked to establish new churches. He was pastor at the Rose Hill Presbyterian Church which was somewhere near Weldon. From Illinois he went on to the frontier of North Dakota (I think in 1910) and again worked to establish churches there. He died there in September of 1910, but Sarah took a homestead near the burning coal mine in Slope County and lived there for some time. Other members of the family eventually came west to Oregon -- she came to Portland to live with her oldest daughter Estella, and died there October 3, 1927. Both Andrew Newton and Sarah Isabel are buried in the Bowman Cemetery in Bowman, North Dakota. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Small Business - Try our new resources site!
Melissa, I don't believe I answered this question from you. I apologize for the delay. I have been going through the copies of the session records for Mt. Hebron church - it appears that Andrew Newton Moore was called by the session in September 1897 to preach for one year. In the year before that he served on the session there -- was often the moderator of the session. In 1891 he married Maggie Pylant and W. C. Reneau and was noted as Rev. I do not know when he completed his ordination as a pastor. And I do not know when he left Tennessee to go to Illinois. Other Moore names that occur -- H. J. Moore is noted often. On session minutes for 1892 J. H. Moore is listed as Treasurer. That could be John Harkins Moore. These notes are from Book II of the Mt. Hebron Cumberland Prebysterian church at Norris Creek, which is now Belleville TN." I haven't "scoured" the lists of members -- other names that occur on the session records are Bill, Pylant, Ingle, Sorrels, Ashby, Wright, Dooley, Cannon. Swing, Pitts, McKenzie, Reiver. Those were names of the elders who served from 1883 through 1909. On a register of deacons the same names occur -- also Hudson, and James Armstrong (May 1909.) These are very incomplete records. If I ever get lots of time when I have nothing else to do, I would enjoy transcribing these notes...but not sure when I'll get to that.
