Historically speaking, like over a hundred years ago and more...were there any Jewish families in Lincoln/Moore/Coffee/Giles county? Both sides of my father's family were from this area. At whatever time in history was there was some Jewish heritage in Lincoln Co.? According to the DNA with Geneology.com. (that my 89 year old father participated in) there was some Jewish heritage in our family. I hope this does not open the can of "worms" that my inquiry about Native American history in Lincoln County caused a few years ago. I'm interested in the subject myself. I'm descended from the Warrens and Marrs, McCullocks and Streets from Lincoln. A few years ago I was horribly sick and my family took me to the Mayo Clinic to get me help. They diagnosed me with an illness called FMF. It is a heredity type illness only seen in Sephardic Jews. My Franklin county side of the family was of Cherokee heredity and we suppose I got it from them through the "Melungeon" links. However, my Lincoln County cousin from Warren side is now taking medication for the same illness. I would like to know where the Jewishish link came into my genetics as well. Hi cousin Michaele, I'd be that cousin. I was met with some resistance when my family was told it could be FMF for me, also. But, my illness is so pronounced, and so predictable, even my family doc says he's convinced that's what it is. And, as you said, you have to have Sephardic Jew in your family. Our Warren's were always said to be Black Dutch, and if you research that term alone it can mean many ethnicities. And, it's possible several hundred years ago they were practicing Jews who decided to escape persecution and denounce their religion. Who knows. But, to actually see any Jewish references in LCT, I can't say that I have. I think as a society we are moving forward in our thinking and our prejudices, but I could see (no offense to anyone living in LCT) that a few years back it would be tough to be "different" in LCT. So perhaps it was hidden. Just an opinion....you know what their like, we all have one..... I don't know about anyone else's line but my husband's family was Jewish and lived in Petersburg and operated a store in Flintville. And according to some history of Jewish synagogues in Nashvile I read yesterday, there were enough Jewish families in the area by 1840 to begin establishing congregations. My husband's ancestor was in the area by 1875 after immigrating from Hungary. Carmen, I'm curious - you said your father showed Jewish DNA. Is he on your Warren side? I'm suspected of having Familial Mediteranean Fever - a genetic disease. There is at least 1 Warren cousin who was genetically diagnosed. So far, I haven't been, but the Dr's agree I fit the profile/symptoms. My family is not very receptive to the fact I may have a "Jewish" disease. That's why I wondered about the Warren...
