    1. Re: [LCT] Shelton family
    2. It is very interesting reading about a Shelton line in Lincoln County Tennessee. My GGrandfather, James Shelton Carter was born in 1837 and it is believed to be in Lincoln County, Tennessee. Myself and other family researchers are still trying to prove that. My GGGrandfather was John F. Carter who died in Tippah County, Mississippi in 1850. He married a Catherine who was born in Tennessee. I wonder if possibly her last name could have been Shelton? > > From: "Virginia L. \(Ginny\) Keefer in LasVegas" <ginnykeefer@cox.net> > Date: 2005/02/25 Fri AM 02:39:27 EST > To: TNLINCOL-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [LCT] Shelton family > > Ralph Shelton JR born 1709 Middlesex Co VA. 3. If anyone on the list has come across William Yerby COATES, b. 1861 in Lincoln Co. TN(17th Dist.), son of Thomas Coates and wife Mary(Stewart)Coates, please contact me. He last appears in the 1880 census in his father's household, but from that point on, I have found nothing. I do have a recollection that someone thought he might have been sent to the TN State Penitentiary, but that may or may not be anything more than speculation. Better yet, if someone knows about a way to access(on line, preferably)the records for the TN State Penitentiary for the period c. 1881-1900, I would appreciate hearing from you. Regards, Larry

    3. Hi list- I am trying to compile a list of all the Reverends and Preachers (circuit riders also) who passed through LCT from about 1800 thru 1875. If you have any of this information, please email to me the following: +Date event occurred or timeframe he was a preacher for church +Name +Name of Church +Religion +parents names. birth and death info - if you know it Also interested in court clerks/JPs - anyone who might have signed a marriage certificate. I think it would be interesting to have this information on a web page such as the 1850 LCT annotated census (see http://www.azcaseys.com/lookups/lct1850/index.html ) for reference when looking at marriage records. If you knew the church they went to you might be able to separate out confusing and similar named individuals. Thanks, Diane

    1. Forrester and Moore Families in Lincoln &Moore Co.TN
    2. Mark K Jackson
    3. I am researching the Moore and Forrester lines from the Lincoln County area that later became Moore County. My great great grandmother was Mary Matilda Forrester, daughter of Alexander Forrester. She married John F. Moore on the 5th of November 1868 in Lincoln County. They had their first child, James Alexander, on the 7th of September 1869. They were listed on the 1870 LCT census, 5th District at the Lynchburg PO. James Alexander was listed as 10 years old instead of 10 months. John was listed as J. F. Moore, age 28. I can't find anything further on John F. Moore. John and Mary Matilda were in route to Missouri when John died. Mary Matilda went back to her parents and remarried to George Baker in Bedford County on the 26th of December 1877. A lot is know on the Forrester line, but I would appreciate any help with my Moore line. Does anyone know of any newspapers that were in print during this time period(1869-1877)? Any help is appreciated on the Moore or Forrester Families. Thanks, Sincerely, Mark Jackson

"Mr. Carter was a native of Lincoln County, a truck driver, member of the National Guard and of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Sherry Lewter Carter; two sons, Danny Chad Carter of Fayetteville and Erik Ray Carter of Murfreesboro; two grandchildren, Austin Chad Carter and Logan Carter, both of Fayetteville; parents, Raymond Mac and Annie Mae Carter; mother-in-law, Inez Campbell Lewter; a sister, Carol Dempsey of Fayetteville; a brother, Gary "Razoo" Carter of Fayetteville; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by two brothers, James David Carter and Jerry Wayne Carter. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Higgins Funeral Home with Bros. Don Wallace and Winfred Claiborne officiating. Burial was in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. ©The Tullahoma News 2005" First of all, my condolences to the family! I have a Jerry Carter who married Lynette Logan. They have two sons, Chad and Matthew Carter. Would anyone know if this Jerry Carter is the Jerry Wayne Carter mentioned in the obituary as the brother of Danny Ray Carter? In addition, I have an Inez C. Campbell who married Clarence Edward Land, Jr. on 16 Aug 1941. Would anyone know whether this is the same Inez Campbell who subsequently married a Lewter (and is the mother of Sherry Lewter Carter), or if she is another Inez Campbell? And who might Sherry Lewter Carter's father be? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Jim Danley Vista, CA 102454.746@compuserve.com

    1. Daniel Newton Hill
    2. Dear list, Can some one do some look-ups for me? I am trying to find the birth dates, marriage dates and death dates for the three wives of Daniel Newton Hill. They are in order Laura Cashion, Viva G. Cashion and Virginia (Jenny) Preston. Also where they are buried if possible. I think Daniel lived in Moore county, Tenn. Thanks in advance, Robert Cashion
