    3. I am interested to know if your Andrew Moore could be a brother to John Harkins Moore Sr. who was born about 1770. John Harkins Moore, Sr. named his first son Andrew - this could possibly be for a brother. The name Andrew continued through this family -- John Harkins Moore Jr. named his first son Andrew. This family came to Lincoln County from South Carolina. I do not have any connection to Bell or Buchanan families. 3. Thanks for your comments, Regina! First a statement. The LCT book has exploded from a "good size" Heritage book to GIANT, bigger than life size! More than 2200 articles are now being finalized! The brochure stated that "anticipated delivery was late 2004 or early 2005". Because of the landslide of stories and pictures, the book will be nearly double the size of other Tenn. County Heritage Books. It will be well worth the wait! Yes, meticulous records have been kept. All moneys are safely tucked away in a Federally Chartered bank in Fayetteville, TN. According to Jack Towry, President of the LCT Genealogical Soc., and the Heritage Book Committee, pre-publication prices will only be honored for only a few more days. After all manuscript is submitted, the price will increase. (a word to the wise) For more details, you may click on the website; http://www.tncountyheritage.com/ ignore the deadline on the website, please) It is anticipated that some of the family articles and photos will be submitted to the publisher on Wed., March 2. From there, the typesetting and proofing process will roar into overdrive. The goal of the Committee is now Fall 2005 delivery of the book. Hang in there! You will be pleased. Oh yes, in May 2005, the project will enter its 18th month. In nearby Bedford Co., TN their book project lasted approx. 36 months. (All in Bedford are very proud of their book!) 3. This is NOT my family. I found some interesting info. that I want to share with those interested. Hope this URL goes through okay. If not, contact me and I will see what I can do to correct the URL I am sending with this message to you. http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?Jesse,T.::gage::1196.html Look on genforum at my message no 1829 for Will of Reuben Gage from Benton, Yates Co NY who relocated with his children to Sylvan, Washtenaw Co, MI and left his will there. I found it in some of my MI books. I moved from MI last fall. The Will was in Flint Genealogical Quarterly, Spring, 1990, Volume 32, No 2, Flint, MI. On above URL mentioned is Aaron Gage [David 3, David 2, Nicholas 1] born June 15, 1758 Woodbury Twp. Orange Co NJ. died 2 Sept 1844, Boonville, Lincoln Co TN. He married Nancy CARTER b May 7, 1758 at Rutherford NC. She died before 1840 at McNairy, Hardin Co TN. Other messages on genforum about the above family are #1667 and #1196. Probably lots more that I did not read to see?. Remember, this is just stuff I found on the internet and must be proven by those descendants of Gage. Ginny Keefer ***** Ancestry.com posted by Sandra French, Dec 2001 Nicholas Gage b bef 1685 in Wales England died bef 1788 He md 1st bef 1701 Mary ___ b bef 1685 Wales. Son David sailed from Wales, England to New Jersey, landing sometime in early 1730 with his two half brothers. Md 2nd Mrs. Schiffman b Hamburg, Germany. Son Daniel Shiffman Sr. b 1715 Hamburg, Germany. David and his two half brothers, Daniel and Joseph Shiffman was said to have lived about eight miles southeast of Hamburg, on the Elbe River in Germany. The Shipman family was originally named Schiffman. Mr and Mrs Schiffman and their two small sons, Joseph and Daniel, began a trip to Wales where they intended to obtain passage to New Jersey in America. During the trip to Wales or soon after their arrival, Mr. Schiffman died. In a short time, his widow married a man named Gage. Mr. Gage had a son named David. The family was to remain in Wales for some years. By the later 1720's, the boys were of age to continue the planned trip to America by themselves. They are said to have set sail landing on Jersey shores in the early 1730's. It appears that sometime during the voyage the Schiffman name was changed to Shiffman. [ The master and crew Americanized many names]. Joseph Shipman is said to have settled in the New Jersey area. David Gage married Abigail Burleson soon after their arrival. They moved with her parents to Lunenburg Co VA. Daniel Shipman is said to have gone to Pennsylvania Dutch Country. After several years, he was not happy there and removed to Lunenburg, VA. 1. SHELTON
    2. I noticed the interest in the name SHELTON. This is not a name I am personally researching but my mom's first cousin married into a SHELTON family that all live/d in the Muskogee(Oklahome) area. His name was William Shelton and he came from a large family that had Indian lines in it. He has died but his widow is still living and she is 91. I am not sure what she remembers. I do know the Shelton's moved into Oklahoma and spread roots-lots of them!! It must have been a wild place because before his death William would tell me stories of his family and growing up. Every Saturday they would hitch up the wagon and go into town for supplies and groceries The trip into town, getting the groceries and the return home took over 14 hours. All of the children would ride in the back of the open wagon and to keep them quite on the long journey home every Saturday they would buy a bag of hard candy and designate one of the children to hold the bag. He told me that was how they kept track of the children and made sure all of them got in the wagon to return home. William slept more soundly than any person I have ever known and one Saturday when it was his turn to hold the bag he fell asleep and bounced off the wagon. It was several miles down the road when one of the younger boys woke up looking for the candy. They realized William was not in the wagon and turned around to go find him. He was asleep in the middle of the dirt trail still holding the candy. He once slept through a storm that blew a tree into the bedroom about 3 feet from him and did not wake up. William was a career army officer and in charge of the MP's in Japan after W.W.II.
