    1. Civil District 23
    2. Does anyone know the location or area making up the Civil District 23 enumerated in the 1850 US Federal Census of Lincoln County? Would it be in the Lynchburg area? Thanks in advance. Jane Sims :-)

    3. Hey Julia, This may be the John I am looking for. I am narrowing down all the different J. Moore's in LCT during 1840-1880. I am pretty certain that I am looking for John F. Moore, born about 1842 in TN(based on 1870 LCT census listed as J. F. Moore). John, son of John Harkins Moore Jr., was listed as being born about 1846. Dates, among other things, on the census records aren't always correct. I believe his brother, James, was James Frank Moore. There is a Frank Moore listed on the 1870 LCT census with about the right dates for this family. I also believe he is the J. F. Moore that married Mary E. Wanslow in LCT on the 19-Oct-1865. Do you have excel? Robert L. 2. Thank you Cindy, Yes, these are the Woffords I am looking for info on. The name was spelled with an a on the 1850 LCT census. 1. William Wofford
    2. William WOFFORD left a will proven July 5, 1858 in LCT. He names his wife Judith daughter Lucy and grandchildren (children of his dec. son Isaac WRIGHT aka Isaac WOFFORD) Mary Eliza, William Francis, Isaac Rufus, Robert Harvey, and Luther. Son Isaac WOFFORD "...deceased and who was begotten out of wedlock upon the body of my present wife Judith whose maiden name was Judith WRIGHT." Son Isaac WRIGHT was known in the state of TN and MIS as Isaac WOFFORD but in SC before they migrated to LCT as Isaac WRIGHT. From Bastardy Bonds in Spartanburg, SC State vs. William WOFFORD/Judah WRIGHT A bond was signed before Saml Lancaster, Justice of the Peace on March 22, 1804 by William WOFFORD, John WOFFORD Sr. and James WOFFORD in the matter of Judah WRIGHT who had given birth to an Illegitimate female. So it looks like the above named daughter Lucy could be this female. The grandchildren, children of Isaac WRIGHT aka Isaac WOFFORD are on the Mississippi 1850 census. I find no cemetery records for William and Judith but found this in the "LCT Pioneers" by Waller Vol 1 page 85. Mortality Schedules of LCT 1860 Judah WOFFORD 74 female, white, SC, Aug, Disease of bowels 8 days. Judith belonged to the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church per "LCT Pioneers Vol 22 pages 56-61 Does anyone have info on this family or is researching it? I believe Judith WRIGHT could have been related to Jacob WRIGHT of Boonshill LCT as Jacob also belonged to this church as well as Susanna Jones who also may be a sister to Jacob. Julia

    1. Re: [LCT] William Yerby Coates?
    2. PLEASE NOTE :  TSLA will search the two published volumes of Tennessee Convicts: Early Records of the State Penitentiary, 1831-1870 for a listing of a name.  The entries in these two volumes are verbatim transcripts of the original records. E-mail TSLA and we will check to see if there is a listing for the subject in the index. There is no charge to check this published index, and TSLA will notify you of the cost to make a copy of the record if found. If the individual was in the Tennessee State Penitentiary after 1870, you will need to submit a written request for a search for the name.  TSLA will not accept e-mail requests to search penitentiary records dated after 1870. Instructions for ordering copies of entries found in the following index, as well as ordering a search of the later Tennessee State Penitentiary records, can be found in our section on services available by mail (listed under "State Penitentiary and Record Groups").

    3. I am not related to the Coffey line. I checked out www.familysearch.org and found the following. Not proven by me. Also go on the internet and type in Chalkey's Chronicles. You will bring up the main page with 3 volumes. Scroll to the bottom of each volume and check index for Coffey or Coffee to see what else you can find on your Coffey family. Then I suggest the name Coffey is common in Capt Thomas Graves lineage. Go on internet and type in http://www.gravesfa.org/gen169.htm This site is over 495 pages in length in case you consider printing. Just scroll until you come to Coffee/Coffey names. There are several connections. Note the family name number on the first one you come to. Then look for that number again to locate each family member's further genealogy. Marvelous site. Ginny Keefer PS, I did not have Maury Co URL so please share or send URL to me and I will forward it you are not able to. Ginny K.
