    1. re Mt. Hebron Church in Tennessee
    2. Vicki, Thank you for posting the following message to the Lincoln County TN site. You mentioned that the names WRIGHT and CANNON are found among the elders of 1883 through 1903. Are there records earlier - like back to the 1860s? Those two names are of interest to my research. Do you know of a church near Elora in Lincoln County in about 1840s, 1850s? Or of one near Salem in Franklin Co. of 1860s, 1870s? Again, thank you for an interesting letter. Norma (Gorman) Wright Researching WRIGHT, STOVALL, BEAN and WAKEFIELD of Lincoln, Franklin, Bedford Counties in Tennessee; and in Madison and Jackson Counties in Alabama. You wrote: <I have been going through the copies of the session records for Mt. Hebron church - it appears that Andrew Newton Moore was called by the session in September 1897 to preach for one year. I do not know when he completed his ordination as a pastor. And I do not know when he left Tennessee to go to Illinois. Other Moore names that occur -- H. J. Moore is noted often. On session minutes for 1892 J. H. Moore is listed as Treasurer. That could be John Harkins Moore. These notes are from Book II of the Mt. Hebron Cumberland Prebysterian church at Norris Creek, which is now Belleville TN." I haven't "scoured" the lists of members -- other names that occur on the session records are Bill, Pylant, Ingle, Sorrels, Ashby, Wright, Dooley, Cannon. Swing, Pitts, McKenzie, Reiver. Those were names of the elders who served from 1883 through 1909. On a register of deacons the same names occur -- also Hudson, and James Armstrong (May 1909.) These are very incomplete records. If I ever get lots of time when I have nothing else to do, I would enjoy transcribing these notes...but not sure when I'll get to that. Vicki Moore McCarty>

    3. Thank you Norma - I hope it was a bit helpful. I have not searched all the papers I have (I received them from Julia Wright Molitz) - I see that on one list of Registrants there are a Mattie J and Willie F. Cannon who joined Mt. Hebron - Mattie Oct. 14, 1887 and Willie Nov 2 1882. They were received by "Experience." There are several Wright names -- covering the period 1871 -1893. There are some earlier records -- I think they are transcribed and perhaps not the originals...Rebecca Wright received 13 Oct 1839 - baptism by pouring. The name Wright appears many times but there are few occurrences of the name Cannon. Anyway, two Woodson sisters about 1843 moved to Lawrence Co MO.....Lucinda was 1st married in TN to Elijah Breedon and moved to MO from Smith Co TN with him, he died, she married my Spencer Gilley in MO. 3. Don't know how much help this will be: There was a Woodson and Hunt family Brush Creek, Smith Co TN. The Turney, Turner and Gilley family were also in Smith Co TN at same time, but on Clear Fork which later was Dekalb right next to Cannon Co Tn. Anyway, two Woodson sisters about 1843 moved to Lawrence Co MO.....Lucinda was 1st married in TN to Elijah Breedon and moved to MO from Smith Co TN with him, he died, she married my Spencer Gilley in MO. Her sister married in TN to Daniel Hunt and moved with Breedons to Lawrence Co MO. Just thought since some of the Turney, Timmons, Gilliam group moved to LCT mid 1820s......and they connect to the group in Smith Co TN, this might be true of your Woodson Turner also. 3. Thank you so much Jeanette for the tip. I did look for Woodson on subsequent census's and couldn't find him after that 1830 census in Lincoln Co. Since I don't have a death date on Woodson or Pleasant I don't know if a courthouse is going to search thru all those years of will/probate records. I do appreciate your response. I will of course keep searching. Have a nice Easter weekend. 3. Hello Mary, When we get back behind the 1850 census records. Like to 1840 and beyond, it is really hard to find the names of all the family members. The best way I have been able to do it, is hope that the county that they died in will have a will and probate record for the person that was the head of the family. Most all of the ones I have located at the courthouse in the probate files have listings of their children and any other member that they wanted to have some of their property after .Jeanette McClure ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Stuart" <stuart@ortrackm.missouri.org> To: <TNLINCOL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 25, 2005 10:18 AM Subject: [LCT] Lincoln Co., TN., Turner's > Am trying to find info on Woodson Turner. 3. Hello Mary, The best way that I have been able to do this - is to go or write to the courthouse of the county they lived in and ask for a Probate Record or Will Record for any particular person, especially when we get back behind the 1850 census, which is the last one to name the children of the families. Sometimes this is hard to do, when we do not know which county they died in....so that takes some more census searching, to find out which county they lived in during their old age. Hope this helps you. Jeanette. 3. Am trying to find info on Woodson Turner. Woodson is on the 1820 and 1830 census in Lincoln Co., TN. Living next door to him, on the 1820 census, is Wm. Wainwright, who married Nancy B. Turner abt. ?1825 in Lincoln Co., TN. Would like to know ( or know where I can look for the info), who Woodson's parents, siblings and children were. I strongly believe that his parents were Pleasant Turner and Agnes Woodson. Pleasant and Agnes were married abt. 1781 in Goochland Co., VA. I suspect (given the naming patterns of the 18th & 19th century), that Woodson is their son. Also believe that Nancy is their daughter. So if anyone can tell me where I can view a listing of the children of Pleasant and Agnes or has them in their database that they would share with me I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much, Mary
