Still searching for info on Rorex/Thompson links. I found that William D. Thompson, born 1843, son of Louisa Rorax and William Thompson, changed his name to William D. Rorax around 1860 or before, either legally or just by choice. He married a Lucy Johnson 14 Feb 1867 in Lincoln Co. In the 1880 census he is listed as David Rorax, but Lucy is listed as his wife. Their son Richard Rorax married, born abt. 1869, married Lou Forester 1 Oct 1891. Does anyone know of these people? I still need to find out more about Louisa's husband, William. Thanks. JS
Thank you. My hubby has a gggmother Lucy Peyton Grantland, dau of Richard Grantland. I am thinking she had a sister who married a Pigg and one who married a Lowe. Lucy P was the outcast - she married a lowly Smith minister.... Martha I had the same thing happen to me. Luckily I found another way to see the information. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tn/lincoln/newspapers/ Melissa ______________________________ Date: Sun, 10 Apr 2005 10:07:29 -0400 From: <gypsy97@bellsouth.net> To: TNLINCOL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: LCT Newspaper Ab stracts 1859-1945 I came across a page while looking at the genweb site for Lincoln Co., that contains a link for a zip file of Tlintville, LCT Newspaper Abstracts. I can't access the file online or download it, and I suspect that it is now controlled by Ancestry.com. Is this file still available somewhere, or does anyone have it? I am trying to find death notices and/or cemetery records for the following: Griffith CUNNINGHAM, b 15 Aug 1787 in Rowan Co. NC; d. 2 Jul 0867, in LCT Nancy Sloan CUNNINGHAM, b. 1786 in VA, d. 1850 Burgess GRAY, b. 10 May 1806, in Iredell Co. NC, d. 4 Feb. 1868 in LCT Elizabeth Cunningham GRAY, b. 8 Oct. 1812, Rowan Co. NC, d. ?? I have the death notice for Burgess Gray but would like to know the cemetery he is buried in. I have searched the index for all 22 cemeteries listed on the Lincoln County genweb site. The only family members I have found are James and Matilda Gray (son & d-i-l of Burgess & Eliz.) in the Kelso Cem. Any info or guidance you can give me will be appreciated. Thanks Dawn, For some reason I never got this e-mail or maybe just overlooked it. This may have been during the time my e-mail address changed from bellsouth to direcway. Thanks again Regina -----Original Message----- From: Dawn Miles [mailto:dawnherit@yahoo.com] Sent: Sunday, April 10, 2005 5:32 PM To: TNLINCOL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [LCT] Re: [Lincoln County TN] Heritage Book update Hi Regina: Thanks for your question. Again. We do appreciate your enthusiasm! Your query, originally made in late February was answered on Monday, February 28, 2005 11:49 AM. Turns out the Committee is still preparing manuscript, and hopes to have that complete by June of 2005. None-the-less, here's a repeat of our answer: Subject: Answers to [TN] LINCOLN COUNTY HERITAGE BOOK questions... Thanks for your comments, Regina! First a statement. The LCT book has exploded from a "good size" Heritage book to GIANT, bigger than life size! More than 2200 articles are now being finalized! The brochure stated that "anticipated delivery was late 2004 or early 2005". Because of the landslide of stories and pictures, the book will be nearly double the size of other Tenn. County Heritage Books. It will be well worth the wait! Yes, meticulous records have been kept. All moneys are safely tucked away in a Federally Chartered bank in Fayetteville, TN. According to Jack Towry, President of the LCT Genealogical Soc., and the Heritage Book Committee, pre-publication prices will only be honored for only a few more days. After all manuscript is submitted, the price will increase. (a word to the wise) For more details, you may click on the website; http://www.lincolncountytn.com/genealogy/heritage.html It is anticipated that some of the family articles and photos will be submitted to the publisher on Wed., March 2. From there, the typesetting and proofing process will roar into overdrive. The goal of the Committee is a Late Fall 2005 delivery of the book. Hang in there! You will be pleased. Oh yes, in May 2005, the project will enter its 18th month. In nearby Bedford Co., TN their book project lasted approx. 36 months. (All in Bedford are very proud of their book!) Our best to all friends of LCT History & Heritage! --------------------------------------------------- 4-10-05 Oh yes, Have roots in Giles Co., TN? I bought one but never got a receipt for it. Hope someone was keeping good records. Regina ----------------------------- __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
