Dear Lincoln Co. Researchers, I'm working on an elusive Harrison line that I find on the 1830 census in Lincoln Co.--the family of a Benjamin Harrison, b. 1790-1800. I believe this Benjamin is son of Richard and Rachel Dorsey Harrison of Lincoln Co., NC, whose bible shows a son Benjamin b. 1794. This son's whereabouts in his latter years have not been accounted for. Also on the 1830 census in Lincoln Co. is another known son of Richard and Rachel Dorsey--Richard Johnson Harrison. In 1835, Richard Johnson Harrison probated the estate of a Benjamin Harrison in Talladega Co., AL. His securities for the probate of the estate were Alvis Q. Nicks/Nix and Charles Ables/Abels. A biography of Alvis Q. Nicks says he moved from Lincoln Co., TN, to Talladega Co., AL, in 1833. On the 1830 census, I find Charles Ables four doors away from Benjamin Harrison. I think the man whose estate is probated in 1835 in Talladega Co., AL, is the same man who is in Lincoln Co. on the 1830 census. Descendants of a probable son of Benjamin Harrison, Richard Thomas Harrison, have a family story that Richard's father was killed when he was a young man, having been stabbed in a chivaree in southern TN. Richard T. Harrison was b. 1 March 1826 in TN. If anyone has information on the Harrison or Ables families, I'd be very happy to know about it. I am of the opinion that Benjamin Harrison probably married a sibling of Charles Ables. A probable sibling of Richard T. Harrision, Benjamin D. Harrison, who moved from Talladega Co., AL, to Claiborne Psh., LA, named a son Charles A. Harrison. I descend from another sibling, Mary Ann Harrison, who was b. 13 March 1822 in either TN (per the 1870 census) or Talladega Co., AL (per a biography of her son Benjamin Dennis Lindsey). Mary Ann married Mark Jefferson Lindsey on 22 Oct. 1839 in Lawrence Co., AL. Will welcome any information and will gladly share my own. Bill Lindsey
Joyce, I only have one Rogers/Pigg connection: Martha Pigg married Oliver Jasper Rogers. Martha was the daughter of Thomas H Pigg and Lucinda Chitwood Pigg. I do not have any dates or locations for Martha and Oliver Jasper Rogers. I do have further Pigg information on Martha's family if you need it. That is certainly good to know! I was a bit confused when I read Louisa had been a widow...I had planned on looking deeper into that, but I'm glad it was cleared up. I will be going to Lincoln Co later this week to the courthouse to do more research on the Thompson/Rorex connection. Catharine Thompson, daughter of Louisa and William Thompson was my ggggrandmother. Another thing, I believe Louisa was married to William Thompson, not David Thompson. They married in 1845 in Lincoln Co....just a guess here, but David may have been William's brother, as Louisa's children Catherarine, age 13, is living with David Thompson and his family in 1860. Anna was his mother, and another Catharine was in his household, maybe a sister. There is a Patrick Thompson living close by who may also be a brother. He married Mary Pulley(Pully) of Lincoln Co. The William Rorex living with Louisa in 1850, was her half brother. Nancy Holman living with W.P. was William's sister. They were children of David Rorex, Sr. and Jane__? David, Sr. had been married twice. Not much is known of his first wife Jane and their children. Their son, William D. Thompson, may have changed his name to William D. Rorex after 1850 and Louisa's death. He is living as William Rorex, age 16, with Enos and Mary Wilson in Lincoln Co. On 14 Feb 1867 William D. (Thompson)Rorex married Lucy Johnson. They had a son Richard, who later married Lou Forester in 1891 in Lincoln Co. The ages of Catharine and William in 1850 and 60 makes sense. They were 3 and 6 in 1850, 13 and 16 in 1860. Not sure how the Wilson family connects, if at all. The changing of names has been a real headache for the Rorex researching....just digging deeper into the census and a little detective work turned this up for me. Still needing info on the Thompsons, though. I am trying to find death notices and/or cemetery records for the following: Griffith CUNNINGHAM, b 15 Aug 1787 in Rowan Co. NC; d. 2 Jul 0867, in LCT Nancy Sloan CUNNINGHAM, b. 1786 in VA, d. 1850 *********************************************** I am not researching this family but what I have for this family: LCT Pioneers Vol. 1, No. 2? page 13. NOTE: Not sure if this is issue number 2 or issue number 1. Top of page says "continued from volume 1, number 1" yet it does not appear to be from volume 1, number 2 Here is what it says: "From the March 25, 1852 Fayetteville Observer: Died: In LCT on 22nd inst. Mrs. Sarah, wife of Griffith Cunningham about 60 years." In the 1850 LCT census in HH 302, Griffith Cunningham is living with wife Nancy b. 1784. Does anyone know if the Nancy on the 1850 census is the same as the Sarah b. 1792 in the obituary in 1852? Are these one and the same? I have a copy of the 1850 mortality index and Nancy Cunningham is not listed. What this means is she probably did not die in the 12 months preceding June 1, 1850. Of course there is always the possibility of an overlooked entry. TO THE LIST: know this question has been asked here before but if you have the answer PLEASE respond. What date is the first issue of the Fayetteville Observer? It has got to be somewhere in the early 1850s. I am nowhere near Fayetteville but if someone on this list is and can check at the library and see where their microfilms start at, I'd appreciate it. And ask them what, if any newspaper existed prior to the Fayetteville Observer? I suspect there was none for a time between the 1828 and 1850's. Maybe they got their news from the Huntsville newspaper. If you have the answer or even part of the answer, please respond. Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions & help. It turned out to be the same thing I had already read on the usgenweb site, and it seems like the newspapers reported local happenings such as illnesses, fires, etc. I was hoping to find a "local girl marries in MO" article, but no such luck. Each time I am just about to give up, I think of what a cousin recently told me - "Think of it as a 5000 piece jigsaw puzzle." So I'll keep looking for those pieces. Martha

RE: Page 177. Jacob B. CORDER to Sarah MCCLURE, July 6, 1849. Married, July 10, 1949 by T.S. WILLIAMS, J.P. Anyone know what household this family in in LCT on the 1850 census? Anyone know who the parents of the bride and groom are?
Hi- I don't have any proof and I hope to get help from the rest of the list but the Annotated 1850 census book had a notation that the first wife of Anderson Fitch was Elizabeth Roach or Roch who died prior to Feb 1849 when the notation says he married Nancy Crabtree (dau of William and Polly Crabtree) Feb 3 1849, LCT. I note your post says that Nancy's maiden name was Pigg, sister to Elizabeth Pigg. For Elizabeth Pigg Wakefield McKinney I show her parents are: John Pigg and Delilah Chitwood. I do not show them having a daughter in the 1850 census named Nancy (does not mean she wasn't already in husband's household). I show the children as: James, Joel, Delia, Edmund, John, ELIZABETH, and Anna. Anyone with a marriage book that can look up the marriage of Anderson Fitch or help in any way to unscramble this? Anyone have a will book listing the children of John and Delilah Pigg? I am not researching these families but am trying to correct any problems with the 1850 Annotated Census web site. Thanks, Diane **************** Brenda, I have very little but will send it along. I have a Sarah McClure, married to Jacob Beasley Corder, and I have one child listed, a Benjamin T Corder, but I have nothing further on these three. However, I do have Benjamin T Corder married to Nancy Bell Benson, March 11, 1889, in Lincoln Co., TN. Nancy was the daughter of William Trousdale Benson and Sarah Ann Fitch. Sarah Fitch was born about 1850 to Anderson Fitch and Nancy Pigg. Nancy was a sister of my great grandmother, Elizabeth Pigg Wakefield McKinney. I may be sending you off in another direction that you aren't interested in!! Dortha
