The Lincoln County Library also has the Fayetteville Observer on microfilm. Steve
Thank you very much for clearing up that mystery. Is there any way to read the newspaper article itself, or do I have to send to Nashville for a copy of the individual notice? I recently learned my ancestor Robert Moore b circa 1838/40 was probably son of Robert Samuel Moore and Elizabeth Hannah Moores of Lincoln Co., Tennessee. Does anyone have information on this family? Peggy C. Wilson
I have scribbled a note that says: ERA GRAY 30 Aug 1900, p3, col 5 ERA E GRAY 4 Oct 1900, p3, col 1 Unfortunately I didn't write down where I picked this up, and I'm ashamed of myself! I am researching the line of Burgess and Elizabeth (CUNNINGHAM) GRAY around the mid-1800's. Would anyone have a clue as to where this reference can be found and what is says? Thanks. Martha Reed

The TN archives has film of Fayette Observer and will send you a copy of the article. It is $5 for in-state and not sure for out of state. They normally send it within a couples days of request. I have used it for several newspaper articles. They also have death certificates. on the internet type in http://genforum.genealogy.com/felps/messages/14.html Kelin and Brittain Felps and Jonas Leatherman appeared the first time in LCT 1820 census with my William White. They all lived in Old Rowan Co on or near Reedy Creek in area that became Stokes Co NC before they left for LCT. Many new Felps men and wife's names are listed in this post.{ At least new to me} I used three volumes of Abstracts of deed Book of Rowan Co NC by James W. Kluttz and one volume by Jo White Linn . Ginny Keefer " Remember me in the family tree- My name, my days, my strife: then I'll ride upon the wings of time and live an endless life". Goetsch

Clement Moberly (wife Mary Fox) born in Bedford co VA....3 sons. 1. William Moberly born ca 1756 2. Clement Jr born ca 1746 3. Isaiah born 14 Dec 1754 Fairfield Co South Carolina, wife Frances Coleman, he died in Lee Creek, Crawford Co Arkansas....at one point this family was in KY. Two daughters of Isiah Moberly 1. Frances Moberly married 01 May 1810 Warren Co Kentucky to Anthony Blacksmith Turney. About 1815 they took a flatboat to Natchez, used Natchez Trace to Columbia, Maury Co TN where some of their relatives were living (Eve Turney SMizer, some of the Turneys).....then 1819 to Wayne Co Illinois. Frances Moberly Turney died 1867 Wayne Co Illinois. 2. Vashti Mobely born 1795 SC, died 1876 Effingham Co Illinois, married 27 Oct 1818 Warren Co KY to Daniel Turney.....one of her sons was quite well known in Illinois politics and is mentioned in some of Lincoln's papers. Leander Jay Sharp Turney was an attorney, judge, 1858 ran for Congress from Illinois, 1862 appointed Sec of State of Washington Territory where for a short while he was also governor, etc. Interesting how these people moved around.....their cousin Jacob B Turney Sr was living in LCT in 1830s.....another cousin was Henry Turney who lived in LCT during Civil War and was a J.P. - you see him on some of the LCT marriage records. Mary
Sonja, many thanks for the lookup and mention of the other Mitchells, will check out. Aileen
Hello Norma, Thanks for getting in touch! Mobley is actually a more common name than one would think! It ranked 1142 out of the 88799 surnames that were tabulated in the 1990 U. S. census. Moberly ranked 10185. http://www.census.gov/genealogy/names/names_files.html There were quite a few Mobley families living in SC at an early date. My particular branch left for KY in 1807. Hello, I'm looking for the death info on the first husband of my great-grandfather, Daniel James Lewis. Maggie (Robards) Bates married Benjamin A. Bates and they lived in Lincoln Co TN in 1900 (per census). In Oct 1904 she married my great-grandfather. B. A. Bates has an obituary in Fayetteville Observer Feb. 13, 1902. page 3, column 4. I suspect this is the one. Does anyone have access to this, or perhaps could tell me how to access it or other Lincoln Co death records? Thank you Phyllis
In a message dated 4/13/2005 JSanders <peanut50@blomand.net> To: TNLINCOL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Rorex Mary E. Rorax married John L. Lane 10 Aug 1892. She was daughter of Lucy and (Wm)David Rorax. Anyone have any Lane connections in Lincoln Co? **** My Lindsey LANE with wife Rebecca, was in Bradley County when it was opened for settlement; I believe he was in Monroe (to the north of Bradley County) in 1830 (if I am remembering correctly.) His son James Madison LANE/LAYNE born 1833; died 1864 Camp Delaware, lived in Coffee County, which isn't very far from Lincoln County. James Madison LAYNE/LANE married Mary Ann HASKINS. I have her portrait. I have quite a bit of information on this LAYNE/LANE Family from James M.'s desc. Please e-mail direct if you find a connection.
Dear Sonja, Is there a Nancy Mitchell marriage to anyone? Thank you. Joy
I hit the send button too soon! Many early LCT families, the HOWELLS, FURCHES, WELLS, CREASONS, GROCES & others were members of the Eaton Baptist Church in Rowan Co., N.C. They appear to have moved together from North Carolina to Indiana and then to LCT. Would like to hear from anyone researching these families. Sonja Bedwell smbedwell@aol.com
Aileen, No Clem Mitchell and Evaline Evans, but did find this one: Page 9. Nathan PERRY to Everline (Evaline?) MITCHELL, Oct. 13, 1838. Married Oct. 14, 1838. Sonja
