Forgive me if this appears twice but I sent it out last week & it hasn't appeared on the mailing list yet. For those of you interested, there is a book available on the Internet called MEDLIN CLAN AND KIN IN AMERICA at http://www.angelfire.com/tx3/trek/ This book covers mostly the Medlin family of course, but it also includes Gibson, Armstrong, Smith, and Foster, There were a few more families that were also in Lincoln Co. that came with these families - Suggs, Bowlin/Bolin, and Nichols. On the 1820 census, page 139 (or 26 depending on which census you're looking at) you find the following people: Thomas Armstrong who is a bit higher on the page, then one after the other next door to each other are: Thomas Gibson, James Gibson, Willoby Bowlen who I descend from, Ambrose Foster, Joel Foster, Robert Bowlen, James Alexander, William Nichols, Henry Nichols, Samuel Cunningham, Henry Suggs. My Willoby Bowlen was formerly in Montgomery Co., N. C. The 1850 mortality census of Moniteau Co., Mo. states he was born in S.C. The Suggs & Nichols families were also neighbors in Montgomery Co., N.C. as well as Moses Gibson One of the Suggs in Montgomery Co., N.C. married into the Wright family, though he died in N.C. The Fosters, Armstrongs & Medlins came out of South Carolina. Some of my Bolin family moved into Ga.before heading for Lincoln Co. which may be where they met up with the Fosters & Medlins unless they knew them before moving to N.C. From Lincoln Co., the Bolins also moved into Marion Co., Ala., then Stoddard Co., Mo. with at least one Foster family before moving up to Moniteau Co., Mo. I know a Bolin married into the Foster & Medlin family but my info is so scant, I know little else. I descend from John Hill who married Elizabeth Bolin & John Hill may or may not have been in Lincoln Co., Tn. but he was definitely in Ala. & Mo. These families seem to leave a few behind everywhere they moved. My Bolins did not move to Texas with the rest of the Fosters/Medlins though. Just thought I'd throw more confusion into the mess. It appears these families were all close though. Bernadine Teague

Ginny, thanks very much for the info you dug up. I've been away for nearly two wtks so I didn't get a chance to write you. I was aware of the BREVARD and HUBBLE connections to James N. & John P. DAVIS. The biggest problem I have is verifying that Martha E. GRAY DAVISis the same as the Martha E. GRAY, dau. of Burgess and Elizabeth CUNNINGHAM GRAY. I'm intrigued by the B.P. & Elizabeth GRAY in LCt in 1860. Don't know how I missed that. It's not a son of Burgess, that I can tell. Thanks again. I believe William L. Moore is William Lawson Moore who served with William L. Shofner and Mulberrry Riflemen in Civil War. He was William Lawson Moore. William L.'s sister, Lucy, married Robert L. Moore and William L.'s daughter Norma married William F. Moore in 1888. I have a book with the name of William P. Moore on it. I remember in the archives was a question that concerned William Lawson Moore's son Archie, I think, who went to TX. My great grandfather was William Loton Shofner. Lucy in San Antonio

Hi everyone. The Cemeteries of Madison County, AL books, Vol. I and Vol. II are still available for purchase. Dot Scott Johnson and her crew spent nine hard years, going to all the cemeteries they could find, to do Volume One which has 377 numbered pages. I have no idea how many years it took to do Volume Two which contains 371 numbered pages. They did a lot of climbing, crawling, hiking and walking through pastures, bushes, over and under fences, fighting off snakes, cattle, dogs, ticks and chiggers. And yes, a lot of landowners thought they owned the cemeteries on their land and refused to let them through. I do think the nicest thing anyone could possible do would be to email Dot and ask her to give you the cost and availability of her cemetery books. Her email address is dsjohnso@HIWAAY.net Thanks Dot and everyone involved for doing the Cemeteries of Madison County, AL!!! Sure saved us a lot of travel and hard work. When we started doing research about 30 years ago we started buying every book possible on the areas we were researching and guess what? Today we have to do very little traveling to find what we need. Yes, that's correct, we have our own genealogy library of sorts right here in our home. All we have to do is go to the shelf and take the book down and search. Everyone in the area you are searching are related to each other or were the neighbors for many, many years. There are so many people buried without a marker and can't be found. Markers were very expensive and money was hard to come by, and sometimes the place where the markers were made was so many miles away that transportation was impossible. Sometimes a death certificate or bible records will tell you what you need to know. There are many shortcuts you can take and buying the book that has your information in it is the best shortcut I know about.
