A Little clarification on this utility I have. It works best if: - you know the first name but not the last name so you want to see for example, all Martha's b. abt 1835 and what her potential spouse's name might be. I'll give you all the suspects and you can go off researching all those candidates, eliminating them one by one till hopefully you stumble on the correct one -or- - you know the last name but don't know the first name. Not sure when this situation would occur but I can come up with candidates for this scenario. If you have both first and last name, and especially if you have found them on the 1850 census, then most likely this program will offer no new information and you can probably view the information for yourself by doing a surname search on the 1850 census at: http://www.azcaseys.com/lookups/lct1850/ghtindex.html However, I am not opposed to trying different things with this utility and am not trying to discourage anyone from contacting me. I am just trying to define the limitations of what the program can do. Like I said before, I am trying to discover uses for it. So don't be afraid to propose scenarios to me. I'm just trying to clarify for you (and for me) when it might assist you. Another example: Someone once posted here something like "I know my Susan Waters should be on the 1850 LCT census with husband John. She is on the 1840 and the 1860. I can't figure out where she is on the 1850 census." This type of search was what piqued ny curiosity for this program. I can type in Susan and John and come up with all the combinations. Then look at the children's names or the parents ages and see if somehow the surname got mangled on the census. I can just look for all the Susan's and see if maybe John went to NC to work for a year and wasn't present. I can look for children's names to see where the parents might be. These are just a few thoughts I had when I had this program created. Hope this clarifies things. Diane
I have a utility that a friend wrote that will search the 1850 census data I have for possible marriages. Since this data is mostly people found on the 1850 census, the uses I can se for it are: - you have a will from pre-1850 that mentions a daughter but you don't know who she married, I can type in just that first name and come up with all possible spouses. - there is a woman married in 1860 or 1870 who should be in the household of her father in 1850 but you are not sure of her maiden name - or you want to see all the woman with that name on the 1850 census. I can look up by the female name and find all the 1850 households - you know your family should be on the 1850 census but can't find it - maybe their surname got mangled. Maybe their first name is messed up. - I am looking for other reasons to use this program I hope one day to have this on the 1850 web site but right I have to run the program. I am willing to try simple queries. I will not look for all the john's or all the mary's. :-) Send me the names and approx. birth year and any other information that might help. Diane

Just thought I would throw this in...there's a simple DNA test that can be taken by any male descendants which will answer that question (Native American ancestry). Family Tree DNA can do that. See: http://www.familytreedna.com/ Most sincerely, William R. (Bill) Massey of Lewisburg/Marshall County, Tennessee
I should have added the name of the second daughter of Andrew W. Walker and Elizabeth Motlow below. I listed Laurette who married Mr. Massey because that is the line I was writing about. The second daughter of Andrew W. Walker and Elizabeth Motlow was named Elizabeth Motlow and she married another Andrew Walker. In 1850 Lincoln Co TN census, HH 912, you are looking at widow daughter, Elizabeth [Motlow] Walker age 63 b SC, her daughter, Mariah age 41 b SC and her father, Andrew W. Walker, age 70 born VA. Hope this clears up the query posted. I am glad to see researchers are questioning rather than running with what I 'found' on Ancestry.com and in Worth S. Ray's book. Ray did not have the advantages we do with computers and had to travel and interview all he could. He has mistakes but did the best he could in his time and place. It ALL need verified. Regarding Elizabeth Motlow marrying Andrew Walker (see notation from a previous post below my question), can anyone share any more information about the source of this? Interestingly I note Elizabeth Walker being head of household in the 1850 LCT census. Here is the listing: Elizabeth Walker age 63 b. SC Mariah age 41 b. SC <----- if her mother Elizabeth met Andrew Walker in Lynchburg, TN wouldn't Mariah be born in TN? Andrew W. age 70 farmer b. VA It appears to me that Andrew is NOT married to Elizabeth but is somehow related to a deceased husband of Elizabeth's. Anyone have any wills or documents that would answer why Andrew isn't listed as head of household? Thanks, Diane >TN Cousins by Worth S. Looking at 1850 LCT census- James was age 56 and Edith was age 58- Revised date of birth for James Tucker is 1787 in NC. Revised date of birth for Edith Chapman White is 1792 NC- died after 1870 LCT census when she is listed at age 81. James Tucker's will was signed Aug 19, 1856 and proven Nov 9, 1865 LCT. Hi list - below are some sites I have found helpful. The TN Land site has many links to pursue for more information. The Pruitt one has a great explanation of the land grant process for NC to TN lands. Also, if you haven't tried the Library of VA site, you can find your VA ancestor land records there, and you can even download copies of the handwritten originals (print out on parchment paper for a great keepsake). On the VA Lib site, use their search form with your surname of interest and up pops all the Jones, etc. _http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/land/index.htm_ (http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/land/index.htm) _http://www.tngenweb.org/tnland/pruitt2.htm_ (http://www.tngenweb.org/tnland/pruitt2.htm) _http://www.tngenweb.org/tnland/index.html_ (http://www.tngenweb.org/tnland/index.html) Good Hunting, Aileen
