    3. You are from my branch of the Turneys, if you send me a snail mail address, I will mail you some family sheets. I will tell you this, you are getting your Josephs mixed up. The Joseph and Peter Gid you are talking about were nephews of your Joseph. Joseph Turney was born 1824 Smith Co TN s/o Peter and Hannah Turney....Joseph was in Civil War and captured, I will send you a statement he gave at time of capture. He was married to Elvira Rogers born 1835 TN d/o William and Rachel Rogers. Joseph had 5 children I list: 1. William Daniel Turney born 1853 2. Russel G Turney born 1856 3. Mary E. Turney born 1858 - must have died young 4. John Wesley Turney (your line) born December 1864 VBC AR, married 08 march 1885 to Polly J. Wade 5. Mary H Turney born 05 Arp 1872, married William Harkins, died 01 Jan 1903 and burried in Yell Co AR. Your line goes like this: Johan Peter Turney (bp 1710/11 Switzerland, arrived 1741 Philadelphia on ship FRIENDSHIP, in PA until at least 1749, 1752 living near present day Edinburg, Shenandoah Co VA, he sold his land in Va in 1787 and probably moved either to eastern TN or KY) 2. Henry Turney, died 1843 Dekalb Co TN, was in Eastern Tn 1774, 1780 was at Fort Nashborough which is Nashville today, about 1802 on Clear Forks in Smith (later Dekalb Co ) TN where he died in 1843. His wife was Elizabeth 3. Peter Turney born 1795 TN, died 1842 Van Buren Co AR. wife Hannah. He arrived in VBC AR spring of 1835. He was in War of 1812 and proven at Battle of New Orleans. 4. Joseph Turney b 1824 TN, wife Elvira Rogers. He was in Civil War 5. John Wesley Turney and wife Polly J Wade then on from there. I have the will of Henry Turney who died 1843 TN, and of Hannah Turney who died 1860s in VBC AR....also statement Joseph made when captured during Civil War. I am a double Turney from two of Peter and Hannah's sons - brothers to your Joseph. 1. Abe Turney born 1832 TN 2. Henry Turney born 1815 TN these were two brothers of Joseph - I can give you info on his other siblings. I understand there is a Rogers / Davis connection Mary Turney Miller ----- Original Message ----- From: <Cindykinard@aol.com> To: <TNLINCOL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 13, 2005 7:06 PM Subject: Re: [LCT] Elk Cotton Mills > Mary, > There were some Warrens who went to Ill., however, not till around 1860, > there are some who went to KY early on and several who went to Ms early > on...I have followed many of the Warrens of Lincoln CO, lots went to Tx in the > later 1800's.. > I do not have any Turneys who married into the Warrens...I do have an > English..Sarah Higgonbothom English m. 3. Maria Warren married 10 June 1857 Morgan Co Illinois to William Turney (born 1832 Illinois) who was son of a John Turney of TN who died in 1840s in Galena Illinois. This Maria Warren and William Turney built a mansion in Springfield, Illinois - I have info on it if you are interested, he was a lawyer and at court with Lincoln....etc. then James Turney of TN, about 1820 moved to Illinois where he was an attorney, later Attorney General of Illinois, etc....1851 to Tyler, Texas. One of his daughters married a Lindsey English (think they were from KY) . This Lindsey English born ca 1840 - married Arabella Turney in Illinois and one of their sons was a Warren English....another was a Turney English. So I thought perhaps there was a Warren connection there. I noticed ca 1840s some Warrens in Wilson Co TN - there were Turneys there. This is all the same Turney family, from 4 Turney brothers who moved out of VA - 2 in 1774 to TN, 2 in 1787 to KY....and got mixed up in Illinois, Texas, Arkansas..... anyway, James Turney's first wife he married about 1810 in Tn was named Sarah. We wondered if she might have been a Warren. War of 1812 James was in Overton Co TN, his father had land there as well as several other places since he was a surveyor. Just a shot in the dark. 3. sometimes I don't catch things right off.....I have seen Warren mentioned so much and it just flew right by me.....anyone know of a connection to a Warren family in Illinois? Perhaps a connection to Turney or English in either Kentucky or Illinois? I am finding the name say the 1820-1840 time frame. The Turneys connect to the ones in Lincoln Co so thought perhaps the Warren might be same family also. 1. Re: [LCT] Is Anyone Researching Stephen COLEMAN?
    2. Mary Miller
    3. in the History of Wayne and Clay Counties in Illinois on Anthony Turney (wife Frances Moberly) ....about 1815 Anthony Turney in company with his wife and brother-in-law, went to Natchez, Mississippi in a flat-boat, and in the fall of the following year returned on horseback to Kentucky...After reaching home, his father in 1816 made an extended tour through the Illinois territory, and located what was afterward called Turney's Prairie, to which place Anthony and his father came in the spring of 1818..... The War of 1812 ended early in 1815 - about May or so in 1815 the TN men began to arrive back home from New Orleans......and thru that summer got back home. They had been not only at N.O., but also other campaigns from 1812-1815 all thru the southern area - Alabama, Mississippi, some to Florida. You see beginning in summer of 1815 a lot of those men taking off for places they had marched thru - Alabama being where a couple of the TN Turneys moved to. There were also KY men involved in this war under Jackson. So for Anthony Turney and his brother - in - law (a Moberly?) going to Natchez sometime in 1815 makes sense. Around 1818-1820 you see a lot of TN and KY men moving to Illinois.....there was land available. Now I don't know how Lincoln County fits in to all this.....if perhaps some of the men had gone thru the area and liked it and came back after the war.....as I said, Jacob Turney Sr did not make the move to LCT until after 1820 census. His wife was a Gilliam and they were doing this same thing - looking over Alabama land, etc. It was a very active time 1815-1818 with a lot of men moving to a new location. It seems always after a war ended, men moved. The attraction was always new land. When did Robert Moberly move from KY to TN? Was he in the War of 1812? I am looking > for clues as to what Robert MOBERLY might have been > doing in Lincoln Co.,etc., and would like to exchange > ideas. > > Carol I think I gave you what little I have on the Moberly family - two of the daughters of Isaiah Moberly born 14 Dec 1754 Fairfield County, South Carolina - died 23 Oct 1836 Lee Creek, Crawford County Arkansas (wife Frances Coleman) married into the Turney family in Warren Co Kentucky 1810 and 1818, these Turneys ca 1818 moved to Illinois. These Turneys were related to the Jacob B Turney Sr family of Lincoln Co TN (there in 1830s, 1840s they had moved to Boone Co Arkansas, connect to Timmons, Davis, Hancock, etc in LCT) Anyway, I have the parents of Frances Coleman as Robert Coleman and Frances Mathias. I don't know anything about Stephen Coleman being a half brother to Frances Coleman Moberly, but I have as sisters to Frances Coleman Moberly - Rebecca Coleman married Burwell Cox, and Nancy Coleman married William Moberly. Anthony Blacksmith Turney married 01 May 1810 Warren Co KY to Frances Moberly - Sec. Clement Mobley, Jr., consent by father Isaiah Mobly.....that is how they spell the name. Anyway, bios on Anthony Turney say that he, his wife, and his brother-in-law soon after his marriage went by flatboat from KY to Natchez. (Eve Turney Smizer had already made this move, then to Columbia Maury Co TN where they built a house). Anthony then went back to Kentucky and 1818 moved to Illinois. I have wondered who his brother-in-law who made this trip might be, would have to be one of the Moberlys. Robert Moberly signed as witness to Anthony Turney selling land to his brother Daniel Turney (married 1818 to Vashti Moberly)...this was 28 Feb 1811 Warren Co KY. So it would seem Robert Moberly 1811 was in Warren Co KY with the Turneys, and he might be the one who after that traveled to Natchez.....and then into Maury Co TN. He might not have gone back to KY at that time with Anthony Turney. Jacob B Turney Sr and sons were in Smith Co TN until after 1820 census and then moved to Lincoln Co TN. I have never figured out why he alone went there or what was the attraction.....Is this about the time Robert Moberly moved to Lincoln? He probably would have known Jacob Turney SR. I know I am not much help......sorry. Mary

    3. I was cheking out Diane Casey's website "1850 Annotated Lincoln County, TN Federal Census" today. Great job Diane! I knew that my ggg-grandfather, Robert MOBERLY (MOBLEY) had left Lincoln County by that time, so I searched for some related surnames, and found Stephen COLEMAN. He was half-brother to Robert's mother, Frances COLEMAN, who married Isaiah MOBLEY. I noticed that he had a daughter named Cisily. Frances had a daughter named Sicily. The name, spelled in various ways, was fairly common among the Mobleys. Is anyone researching Stephen COLEMAN? I am looking for clues as to what Robert MOBERLY might have been doing in Lincoln Co.,etc., and would like to exchange ideas. Carol __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. >> Has anyone heard any news on whether the heritage book is getting close? >> I >> ordered one as a gift for someone. --- Last night (Fri 6/10) at the Chestnut Ridge Cousins meeting at Henry Horton State Park Don Mills guesstimated the Lincoln Co. book should be available by Christmas 2005. He says it's one of the biggest ever -- maybe abt 800 pages or so. Bob Robert S. It was interesting one man (must have been a single lawyer) had many books and the prices they went for. Books must have been very rare and valuable - some went at the estate sale for 50 cents, but one was $7.50 which was a lot of money in early 1800s. Thank you again for telling me about these books. 1. Pitts/Pendergrass/Warren
    2. Hi, Hoping someone out there can help me. I am trying to find some info on a Cordelia Pendergrass who married an L.J. Warren 1884. I am thinking L.J. is Lucien J. son of John Bright Warren...I found Cordelia Pendergrass living with her mother in 1880, (from LDS site) which showed Malinda Harrison, dau. Cordelia Pendergrass and son John Harrison in Dist 8 Lincoln Co...in 1900 Malinda has remarried and is now Malinda Pitts, wd, and dau Cordelia Warren (wd also) is living in her household with dau. Lillie b. 1883, Allie b. 1885 and Hattie b. 1888 (she married Vardie Pitts)...From marriage cd I could not find a marriage for Malinda Pendergrass, but did find a marraige for Malinda Harris (not Harrison) to J. Larkin Pitts in 1882..Now, back to Cordelia, if she married L.J. (Lucien), he did not die, he is found married to Lucy Kelso in 1892 and has a dau Elizabeth with her..so, sorta rules out Lucien, or they divorced, and was not actually widowed....Now, from the marriage cd it also shows that a Cordelia Pendergrass m. R.J. Warren in 1883, this I think is Robert J. son of Mormion Warren, found R.J. 1870 Lincoln Co and 1880 in Bedford Co, think he married a M.C. Davis who ran off a few months after their marriage, so probably not Cordelia either. So, my questions are does anyone know anything on the Pitts, who was Malindas spouse? Larkin?, and other children, did Malinda m. a Harris or Harrison? and who was Cordelia Pendergrass Warren married to? I do have a death cert for a Mrs. Deliah Warren d. 21 feb 1937, b. 15 May 1862 states father Wm. Pendergrass and mother Lyda (Malinda?) Dunnivan, informant was M.G. Mansfield and she is buried in Concord Graveyard. Is this the same Cordelia as above.. Any help appreciated very much.. Cindy
