Ginny and others. Years ago I found a book in the Houston Clayton Library that detailed names of Loyalists in the Rev. War and noted confiscation of their property. Some of the names from the Rowan Co., NC area were some of those I was looking for and they moved on to TN from there about the 1782 time frame. Did not note the book name or author - thought I was going to be back right away but moved away instead. Someone else might find such a book at their library. Interesting read. In my family, there was a Sarah E Wakefield, born LCT in 1836. She was the daughter of ?? Wakefield and Elizabeth Pigg Wakefield McKinney, my great grandmother. Sarah married Gaylon M Sawyers in 1855, LCT. He was the son of George W Sawyers and Rebecca Cunningham. The Sawyers and McKinneys lived neighbors in 1850 and appear on the census near each other. Gaylon and Sarah moved to TX and lived in Hill Co. When my grandparents, John J (J J) McKinney and wife, Eliza Jane (Jennie) Pledger, moved from Hill Co., to Palo Pinto Co., about 1886, Gaylon bought their land. ( Sarah was 1/2 sister of J J) The Sawyers eldest child, Elizabeth A Sawyers. born 1857, Ellis Co., TX married Will Taylor McAfee, in 1876. Hi, Springplace is my home, even though I live in Atlanta. I am researching William J. Palmer and his wife Ellen E. Hord Palmer. They were from Culpeper/Orange county area in 1835 . One of their sons, J. D. Palmer married into the Pigg family of marshall county, Lincoln county. Do any of you have information about William J and Ellen E. They are buried in Beechwood Cemetery, in Cornersville, Tn which at one time was in Giles County. > Thanks, Patricia Caneer Gardner > From: "Dortha Greenlee" <dgreen909h@cox.net> > Date: 2005/06/16 Thu PM 06:19:06 EDT > To: TNLINCOL-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [LCT]Pigg, Chitwood, Wakefield, Sawyers, Freeman, McKinney > > Very interesting. Very interesting. Joel Pigg was a brother of my great grandmother, Elizabeth Pigg Wakefield McKinney. I show that Joel was born abt 1800, in VA.and died June 24, 1851,in LCT. He and Penelope Byrd, born April 23, 1813, died March 7, 1900, Marshall Co., TN, near Spring Place (Archer). They were married 1832, in Lewisburg, Marshall Co., TN. They had seven children. I do have a question. You state that Benjamin Franklin Pack was married to Mary Frances Gilliam. Would Frank Pack, a gospel preacher, be one of their descendants? There was a Frank Pack at Abilene Christian University in the Bible faculty. He also preached at the old Northside church of Christ. He and his wife Della moved to California from Abilene. I also found a Joseph Rhodes on page 91, line 22 could he be connected to Absoloms family.I am at a dead end and I hope Lincoln County is my connection to the Iron City Rhodes. Dear Cindy, Many thanks for the information, especially the 1870 LCT census record: 77/77 Williams, T.J. 66 Tn Ray, Permelia 50 Ga Woodard, Margaret 22 Tn Ray, Victoria 19 Tn Ray, W. M. 7 Tn In the book, "The Heritage of Madison County, Alabama," on pages 375 & 376 is the article "Annie Eli(z)abeth Preston and William Morgan Ray," submitted by Marie Ray Anderson. The article states, "Bill was the only son born to William and Permelia Ray in Kelso, Lincoln County, Tennessee, 4 August 1863." At first glance, it would appear that the W. M. Ray age 7, in the above census record, may be the William Morgan Ray referred to in the article. That William Ray, the father, probably died prior to the 1870 LCT census. And that Permelia Ray, in the census record, is the same person referred to in the article. Furthermore, based on the 1880 LCT census, we know that Victoria Ray is Permelia Ray's daughter. Now after that, it becomes a little murky. Also in the 1880 census is a 46 year old William Ray (thus born about 1834), who is identified as the son of Permelia Ray. I doubt that Permelia Ray would have two sons named William Ray. We know that the William Ray who is 46 in 1880, and Victoria Ray have different fathers (if the census information on the birthplace of their fathers is correct). For argument sake, let's assume that their fathers are different. Then maybe the half-brother William Ray (46 in 1880) is not really a RAY at all. Clearly he is from the earlier marriage; that Permelia married a William Ray following the death (or divorce) of her first husband. Unfortunately, there are now more questions then answers! 1. Even if all that is correct, then who is Permelia Ray's first husband? 2. How is Permelia Ray related to T. J. Williams? (If he were born in Georgia, then maybe he is her brother. I guess that still can't be ruled out.) 3. Where is William Morgan Ray in 1880, he would have been 17 years old. 4. Is it possible that the census records are incorrect? That the William Ray in 1880 really should be 16 instead of 46 and that he and Victoria really do have the same father -- making the William Ray in 1880 William Morgan Ray?? 5. Who is Margaret Woodard? A daughter of T. J. Williams who married a WOODARD; or the daughter of Permelia Ray who married a WOODARD? 6. And we are still left with who is the father of John Robert Ray? Since we know from the article that William Ray & Permelia Ray had only the one son, William Morgan Ray, who would be 16-17 years old in 1880, he is too young to be the father of John Robert Ray who was born in 1868, when William Morgan Ray was only 5. 7. If the William Ray who is 46 in 1880 is the father of John Robert Ray, then did William Ray take his step-father's surname? Or maybe he really is a RAY afterall, and that his father was related to (brother of?) Permelia's 2nd husband? But then that brings me back to why would Permelia Ray have two sons named William Ray? Thanks Cindy!!! I'm probably in a deeper hole than I was before! (Ha Ha!) Somebody please throw me a rope -- one with lots and lots of answers! Jim

Would be interested in hearing from any descendants of Masseys and Henrys who intermarried. My ggggrandparents were John and Mary Henry Massey from Lincoln Co., NC. They lived from around 1790 to the mid 1800s. They migrated to Giles County, Tennessee, around 1818. That part of Giles County later became Marshall County, Tennessee around 1871. Some of their cousins may have moved just over the county line into Lincoln County, Tennessee. There are Poarch descendants buried in the Diana Cemetery there. Any help would be appreciated. Sincerely, Bill Most sincerely, William R. (Bill) Massey of Lewisburg/Marshall County, Tennessee

Dear List, In the 1880 LCT census is the following household: Ray, Permelia F 61 Georgia S.C. S.C. Victoria F 27 Dau Tenn. Virginia Georgia William M 46 Son Tenn. Tenn. Georgia John R. M 12 Gr.Son Tenn. Tenn. Tenn. Alice F 6 Gr.Dau Tenn. Tenn. Tenn. John Robert Ray (b. 10 Feb 1868; d. 14 Sep 1940) married (1) Cordelia F. "Donia" Kent (b. 20 Jun 1870; d. 22 Mar 1934) on 4 Dec 1887 in LCT; (2) Ella Martin (b. 1 Sep 1876; d. 2 Jun 1853). I am trying to locate Permelia's husbands and prove John Robert Ray's parents. Victoria and William are identified as Permelia's daughter and son. However, their fathers are listed as being born in Virginia and Tennessee, respectively. William may be John R. and Alice's father, but he is just as likely their uncle. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Jim Danley Vista, CA
Looking for a town which may no longer exist called Brycen Tennessee, which supposedly was in a coal mining region of Tennessee. A Catholic Church which was located there repotedly burned down between 1912-1924. Bob Anisko
