Donna, The TN State Lib and Archives has the complete "original" Confederate Veteran Magazine, all original volumes. You can make copies as you please. The original CV Magazine was published from Murfreesboro TN by S. A. Cunningham of Shelbyville. Cunningham is buried in the Confederate Cemetery within the larger confines of Willow Mt Cemetery in Shelbyville. I found the online interactive site thru the VA archives. Also found a company who sells the CD's of the magazine by 5 yr increments, stated to be 60 complete issues per CD for $15 per CD. They also offer the year of 1923(12 issues) year of 1924(12 issues) for $24.95 each year and the complete index(300 pages) for $45. Does anyone have any input as to whether or not this is a good deal. Found some originals also listed on another site. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! This apparently appeared in Confederate Veteran: v. 14, p. 227. Hopefully if you got a copy of this then the source of the data would be there. You might be able to contact the Library of VA for a copy. http://ajax.lva.lib.va.us
Brenda, I have forwarded this to the [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) site. Hopefully someone will come back with an answer. You can access this site yourself if you want to check it out. This Robert might be related to Adam Looney (2) who died 1769. His property was on the border of NC/SC when the state lines changed from NC to SC. His father, Robert Looney(1) was from Botetourt Co., VA. He had a large number of sons who scattered throughout NC/SC/GA, AL,TN in the early years. There is another possible descendent of Robert (1) for your Robert but not my husband's line and I don't have good info on the other line. There were a number of Peter Looney/Luna's descendents that stayed in Maury Co., TN. Good luck. Nita Fry In a message dated 8/19/2006 12:12:32 P.M. Assorted libraries around the country have complete sets of The Confederate Veteran. The City of Alexandria, VA and Lib of Congress in my area have them. I believe the Dallas and Houston libraries have complete sets. Occasionally, I've extracted data and submitted to the Ellis Co., TX website as well as one I sent to a SC website about a proud ole veteran (a black man) who proudly marched in each of the CSA Vets parades in Columbia, SC. If any of researcher's have CSA veteran who moved to Texas I suggest they take a look at a book called "Reminiscences of the Boys in Gray 1861-1865, compiled by Miss Mamie Yeary, McGregor, Texas. Morningside Press reissued the book in 1986 which was a reprint of the 1912 edition. If the CSA vet participated in CSA veterans camps then his name, together with a description of his service record can likely be found in this book. In some cases a long story about events that happened to him are described by the veteran. Some of the stories! seem to have been "enhanced" a-bit. The "Confederate Veteran" was a small magazine that was published for veterans. My great nephew sent me copies from two different ones that contained members of my McKinney family. One was in 1912 when my grandfather , John J McKinney, died, and another written about 1900-1901. The articles were both written by my grandfather's brother-in-law. His name was A H MCALLISTER, a Dentist from Blue Mountain, MS. The earlier article was written about the McKinney "boys" serving in the Confederacy with him, and about the death of their father, William H McKinney. William McKinney had been stopped by the Yankees and ordered to take an oath of alligence, which he declined to do. They shot him and beat him and placed him in a military prison in Memphis, TN. The name of the prison was the "Irwin Block Prison". I've been told it was such a bad place that when Lincoln was informed about it, he closed it down, or made changes, etc. I would like to see more of these. I believe my nephew told me he had bought copies of these old magazines. Dortha McElroy Greenlee

On the acceptance was written Deceased, but no date of death. Is there any way to reach Ms O' Sullivan? Is the Confederate Veteran a book, newspaper, periodical ?
