Some of Leonard H. Graves and his first wife, Miss Wallace, of AL had a son William Graves who married an Inman. Most of their children moved to Fannin Co TX. I think Leonard H. Graves b 1806 NC, on Giles Co TN census 1850 [with second wife, Catherine B. Keith and their children. He moved to Ark or MO. after Catherine died] was a brother to my direct ancestor Campbell Graves b 1801, listed 1840 and 1850 Giles Co TN, then later in 1850, he relocated with his 2nd wife and children still at home from his 1st marriage to Athens, Limestone Co AL where he was shot ca 1860. I think they both were sons of John Graves who died bef 1820 Giles Co TN census when Ann [Campbell] Graves, his widow alone with 8 children still at home. .·:*¨¨*:·.~* Ginny *~.·:*¨¨*:·.
Did any of these Graves families move to TX? Erath and/or Stephens Co? Dortha
GRAVES researchers I know very little about my Nancy Graves except that census records show that she was born in SC abt 1796. She married John William Cole in NC and they came to Lincoln Co abt 1825. Both Nancy and John Cole are buried in the Stone Cemetery at Bellville, TN. Are you guys aware of the Graves Family Organization by Ken Graves who has a website with many Graves ancestors posted there? William Graves who died in Franklin Co TN which is right next door to Lincoln Co is listed on this website. He has sons who are named but the girls are only listed by year of birth. One is listed as born in 1796. Perhaps this is my Nancy? However his will only names the sons one of which was named Joseph. I found a marriage record for a Joseph Graves in Lincoln Co TN abt 1825. Is this a brother of Nancy Graves Cole? Anyone have any connection to this Graves family? Joan
My gggrandfather James Riley Gobbell was living with his parents in Lincoln Co in the 1850 census. He had a son John Richardson Gobbell born in 1853. I do not know the mother of John Richardson Gobbell. It's a long shot but I'm thinking her maiden name may have been Richardson. I have one lead that she may have been Ann Prince. I have been unable to verify this. Will any of you Lincoln Co. folks use your research info to help me? I'd sure like to know who my gggrandmother was. James Riley Gobbell and son were living in Wayne Co. Tn at the time of the 1860 census and he was married to a widowed mother of two. I know he was in Wayne Co. by 1853 but don't know about John Richardson Gobbell's mother. I believe he married first before leaving Lincoln Co. It's possible that his first wife died from childbirth or that she didn't want to go to Wayne Co. The possibilities are many. Thanks. ` Harold Gobbell
I have another question for you all. James C Guthrie born @1784-1804 married a Nancy born 1797/98 in NC. They named a son Enoch Wiley. That's a little unusual and there are no more Enoch Wiley's in my line. However I have seen both Enoch and Wiley as last names and am wondering if there is a connection? I have no last name for Nancy or for James mother Jane. Could Enoch and Wiley be their last names? Does anybody have a connection? thanks mary > I have always felt (but never been able to prove) that my Guthrie > family > was related to the Graves family. I'm wondering if my John Guthrie born @1771 in VA married to a Jane born @ 1780-1790 might be a brother to your Robert? According to Goodspeed's History of TN John & family settled at the site of Dance & Waggoners mill about 1820. His oldest daughter Elizabeth was born 1800 in NC and married a BAxter. His oldest son James C Guthrie had to have been in TN prior to 1818 as he enlisted in the 20th R Mounted Gunmen against the SEminole Indians. So it's possible that that John was also in TN at that time but perhaps in a different area. Tyring to figure out who John's parents were has been a needle in a haystack ;-) mary
I am interested in the Graves family, especially in Giles Co TN 1801-1850. I descend from Campbell Graves b 1801 census says TN but prob NC. I believe his parents to be John Graves who died pre 1820 Giles Co census and Ann Campbell who was widow with 8 children in that census. She is buried at Shane's Cemetery in Maury Co TN with many of same family. If you have any info on them, please contact me. I am a member of The Ancient Planters Society and have a certificate proving I provided documentation of my family back to Capt Thomas Graves in James City VA 1608. I contact to his line via Eleanor Graves, dau of Thomas, who married John Kimbrough. Through this same line, I have Collier line connection, and Warren line, down to my White family : William White , b 10 Jan 1755 Prince Wm Co VA, d May 6, 1833 LCT. Wife Elizabeth ____ b 1775 NC. A second wife for sure.William filed in 1832 LCT for his Rev War pension. S 1735 VA. .·:*¨¨*:·.~* Ginny *~.·:*¨¨*:·.
Lincoln Co researchers is there anyone out there who has any information about the Nancy Graves who married John William Cole.? I would like to find the name of her parents. Was she the daughter of William Graves who died in Franklin Co TN.? She was born in SC in 1796 and marred John William Cole abt 1820. The first 3 children were born in Richmond Co NC and they moved to Lincoln Co TN abt 1825.
Ginny: I have always felt (but never been able to prove) that my Guthrie family was related to the Graves family. My Guthrie family (Robert Guthrie, Sr. and wife Martha Jane Norwood Guthrie) were in Giles Co., Tn. as early as 1812 (per tax list). One of the sons of Robert, Sr. and Martha Jane Norwood Guthrie was Robert Guthrie, Jr. who married Ann Beal. The oldest child of Robert, Jr. and Ann Beal Guthrie was named Granderson GRAVES Guthrie. Do you have any Guthrie's in your Graves family? Thanks. Betty Guthrie McCollum ----- Original Message ----- From: "Virginia L. A posting from [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) listed the death date of Sarah Ann McCann as 1928. That is incorrect. She actually died 23 Dec 1956 according to her daughter. It is her husband Brice Maclin McLemore who died in 1928. MaryLynn
I have Ruth Ann as the daughter of Charles Rutledge and Rebecca Ann Reeves. Charles is the son of Isaac Rutledge and Ruth Steelman. I have no additional information about Ruth Ann such as birth death marriage or children. I think I have the earlier generations if you don't have that information. I don't have any information on Joseph Rutledge (10 in the database but) not that married Phoebe Gough. Be glad to trade information. -----Original Message----- From: Autumn Iris [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, August 27, 2006 10:29 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [LCT] RUTLEDGE I'm getting old...!!!!
