Hello List, I have found what I think is the John H. & Margaret E. MITCHELL family on the 1850 LCT Annotated Census and on the 1880 Latter Day Saints site -- (as shown below). Since they are found both times in LCT, is there someone with access to both the 1860 and the 1870 censuses who can find them for me in 1860 and 1870??? The 1850 annotated LCT census says that the couple married in 1849. According to the 1880 census, the first child listed was born about 1859. Were there older children listed on the 1860 and 1870 censuses? Thank you so much for any help you can give me. Hi all, I am a little confused about some info I have concerning Dance & Baxter families, probably because I don't have enough information, so I'm hoping some of you might be able to fill in some blanks. Following this is a transcript I made of James P Baxter's will dated 3 Aug 1839 James names his wife E. C. Baxter. There is a bible record that James married Elizabeth C Guthrie in 1820 James further names these heirs: Sarah J Daniel EK Daniel HB Baxter [might be NB] Jt BAxter JF Baxter he then gives a share of his estate to the heirs of MC Dance and names them: JECB Dance [might be I instead of J], JH Dance, Sallie Dance then lists MM Ferguson JH Baxter MMDJ Baxter WAJ Baxter Now my first thought on reading this will was that the MC Dance was Mary Caroline BAxter BUT the transcript of marriage records says that JWM Dance married Mary C on 5 Oct 1848. BUT that can't be right when James will was written 9 years before the marriage date. SO, is the transcript wrong on the marriage date OR were there 2 MC BAxter's that married Dance's???? Here follows a transcription of the original will. Please pass it on to any interested parties, mary Transcribed from a copy of the original will; but I forgot to write down the info about the microfilm it was on but it was Will Book # 2 pg 288 I have written it as exactly as possible. Where I couldn't read a word at all it's marked as [?] of if I wasn't sure then the same brackets & ? to indicate such. I James P Baxter of the County of Lincoln and State of Tennessee do hereby publish this as my last will and testament in the following [?] -My Will is that the [proceeds?] of my estate be equally divided, that is I give to my dear wife E. C. Baxter one equal share [therein?] full of her [dower?] and she the E. C. Baxter by the permission of J. T. Baxter one of the Executors hereunto is to have the use and benefits of Jenny, [Damin?], Molly and Gingo and their increase if any there be. Sarah J Daniel one equal share, E. K. Daniel one equal share. N. B. Baxter one equal share subject to a deduction of three and three dollars and Seven ½ Cents and also his Note with in [toragh Hisnon?] ½ to the Time of distribution J. T. Baxter one equal share with an addition of twenty one dollars. J. F. Baxter one equal share subject to a deduction of one hundred and six dollars. The heirs of M. C. Dance one equal share to be equally divided between them that is [I or J] E C B Dance TH Dance and Sallie Dance-Now my will is if either of said heirs died the other two is to have the whole of said share and if two of said heirs died the one is to have the whole of said share if all three dies before they [? Reach? Attain?] at the age of twenty one years my Will is that their share fall back to my Estate and be equally divided between the balance of my Heirs, MM Ferguson one equal share JH Baxter one equal share subject to a deduction of three hundred and twenty six dollars MMDJ Baxter one equal share and also a Horse W A J Baxter one equal share and also a Horse Now my Will is that there is no distribution to take place until the twenty fifth day of December eighteen hundred sixty nine only to E. C. Baxter and E. K> Daniel pay over to them of their parts as they need it-if any part of said share be paid over to the balance of said heirs before eighteen hundred and sixty nine they are requested to give notes and Security with interest thereon payable to said Executor against said time eighteen hundred and sixty nine. I do Hereby nominate and appoint JT Baxter and JF Baxter executors to this my last Will and Testament in witness whereof the said JT Baxter hath hereunto set his hand and seal this August 3 1839 JP Baxter (seal) Witnesses Loderick Robertson James Mastin, his mark [JS?] Bedford his mark There is then a bit starting with "State of Tennesse Lincoln County, I ." clerk of the county court et. It is written very small with several blots and cross outs but from the bits I can make out the will was apparently probated in 1839

I'm trying to learn a bit about the history of the Chickamauga branch of the Cherokee Indians. I'm basically ignorant about this, so anything at all, suggestions about info sources, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I'm especially interested about the period between the end of the Revolutionary War and about 1815-20, in the location along the Tennessee border with Alabama ...... especially Giles, Lincoln, and Franklin Counties. Madison County, Alabama is just to the south of Lincoln County. Any information further eastward toward the North Carolina border also would be useful. Thanks in advance for anyone's help. Brenda: Were you related to William Russell Bowen who was born in Texas? His father( who came from Tenn. and was part of the Bowen's who had the first "stone" house in Tennessee) fought in the Texas Revolution for all of 90 days and then received a large amount of land in Texas. My mother-in-law was a member of this Bowen family. I think we are related in another LC line, but I can't remember which. Well anyway, I do have info on this Bowen line. Hi List, Know this will hit home for a lot of you doing research like it did for me, so I want to share it with you. Joy Genealogy, why am I doing this? There is a tradition that each person dies three times. First, there is the moment in which the body stops functioning. Second, when the remains are consigned to the grave. Third, is that moment, sometime in the future, in which no one remembers the person and their name is spoken for the last time. Then the person is really gone. I believe that genealogists who preserve the memories of persons from their own familial past are preventing that third death. Let us keep our ancestors and loved ones alive in memory by never forgetting that if it were not for them we would not have existed. Author unknown

I would like to purchase a copy, photocopy, or copies of select pages, or even pay research fees for information from this book. Any help would be appreciated. I have a copy but have not heard of a source that still exists. I hope someone will help you. I don't know what condition your book is in or whether you'd be willing to copy selected pages for me or not. I don't even know how many pages it has. I do know that the author was a scholar and historian so expect the information to be accurate. I believe that only a few pages would be relevant to me. I'd be glad to pay for whatever you think it is worth. This is my interest: I'm currently writing a book on Elihu J. Heffington b. 1834 AR, his and his wife's ancestors and descendants and hope to have it ready after the first of next year. Elihu's wife was Mary Ann THOMPSON, dau of Alexander THOMPSON and Nancy C. TAYLOR. From some letters I read in the late 60s and took notes on at the time, I knew that Nancy C. Taylor (b. ca 1810, NC) had at least 2 brothers: Young L. Taylor and Pinck (Rederick Pinck or Pinckney) Taylor both living in Newton Co. AR in 1871 (the date of the letters). From that, I tracked them back to Lincoln Co. and made a stab at the possible parents, both in Lincoln Co. and in Iredell Co.) and had deduced that Nancy C. Taylor's father (as well as Young L. and Rederick Pinck) was James Taylor and that her mother was the widow "Jensey" in the 1850 census. I found that confirmed in some old website data -- with the marriage record for James and Jensie Shelton Crutchfield (I gather from source notes that that is from an individual's records, not from the book you have). I had already seen references to the Four Brothers book but cannot find where a copy exists -- not even in the Family History Library. I am interested in the pages showing the early Taylors, i.e., the pages that show the links from Edmund II (1725) to Edmund III (1759) to James (1782)(who I believe was the father of my Nancy). I would very much like to include the info from the book that would be relevant. I would certainly give you credit for providing it and, as I said before, I'd be most happy to reimburse you as you think is appropriate. I've been working on the Heffington/Thompson part of this family for more years that I want to admit and have finally decided that it's time to put it in book form so extended family can read what I've learned. I only recently learned of this book, and it appears to be the link I need to James Taylor, who I believe was one of the 4 brothers. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Diane, The only idea that comes to mind is to use (series 2) to distinguish between the new digest numbering and the old. Ann, Here's my best attempt to explain it. Text is easy to understand... you get a big long email and at the top is a numbered list of messages which are below. MIME you get each message as a separate message which you can reply to by clicking reply. (In text mode you have to cut/paste and start a new message). The default is text. Hope this helps. George and rootsweb: One thing I noticed is that they started numbering the issues beginning with 1 again (ex: Volume 1). When we use these as sources how is someone to differentiate between the old numbering scheme ex: TNLINCOL-D Digest Vol 1 #2 and this new scheme ex: TNLINCOL Digest, Vol 1, Issue 2??? I actually think this is the third time rootsweb has started over on the volume numbers. Sourcing is so very important in genealogy, I can't believe they would purposely cause this type of confusion. Isn't there some other way of numbering these - or a different prefix to use? Diane Casey
I try to stay as far away from MIME as I possibly can because I have never really understood the processes of MIME format...switching from MIME to TEXT, TEXT to MIME, etc. A simple explanation of the process would be great..for me. Thanks, Ann
