Hi everyone, First let me apologize if I have not been able to answer your query lately. The archives only has two staff members with on-site researchers coming first. I am about ready to start on research requests for March and this is the end of May! Unfortunately it may be even longer before I can answer queries. The archives is acquiring a "very large room full" of additional records from the basement of the courthouse. The county executive has set the moving date of these records for Tuesday, June 5. We received a grant and purchased shelves and are in the process of placing the books piled in our back room on these shelves. Then, when we have all the records from the courthouse (the county has rented the entire basement of the post ofice), we will have to inventory, sort and find some order to store these, hopefully so they are useful to researchers. 50-60% are records of temporary value and can be tossed after inventory and approval from the state. During this process, the archives may have to be closed part of the time and may have to shut down our research for off-site researchers for a few weeks or months. Hopefully I will have time to catch up on some research before we do this (at least for the people who have already paid). If you are planning on a trip to the archives, please email or call first - 931-766-1576. We will try to make this as painful as possible for researchers and us, but the volume of records in such a short time is mind boggling and there is not much left of my mind to boggle!
