Kathy, If there isn't room, that's okay. You have already run some for me this year. Hope to get back to Lawrence Co. again for some more research. Hope things are going well with you. Cordially, Janet Bryant
Kathy, Please send instructions on how to include an inquiry regarding those "long lost relatives" before the 29th since I have not yet joined the genealogical society. Also, I received a message from Nancy in CA who picked up my inquiry. She states that there is a book in the archives called "The Gallaher Clan" by Shirley Hollis Rice. It lists Flippos, Skillerns, and Christians. I have most of the Flippo and Skillern information but there is among the Christians she listed , a John. I would be interested to know if this line of Christians is ours. The names listed are not some I am familiar with but of course it seems every Christian family had a Charles and a William and a John. Thanks again. Linda Christian
I am trying to locate the cemetery where my g, g, grandfather is buried. His name was Edward Anderson Burch b 1849-d 1940. Our family record shows he is buried in Leoma, Tennessee, but the name of the cemetery is not listed. Can anyone tell me where I might obtain this information? Thanks! Kathy
Hi, This is the last call for queries for the Lawrence County Heritage journal before the deadline Friday, October 29. We still have room for a few more if you need help finding a long lost relative. You can email them to lcarchives@lorettotel.net if you are a member of the Lawrence County Genealogical Society. If not a member, get in touch with me and I will give you instructions. Kathy Niedergeses
Hi, In or winter issue of the society's Lawrence County Heritage journal, we plan to have an article on the Belew family starting with the earliest ancestors in the Carolinas and into Lawrence Co. If anyone has pictures of the Belew family, we would greatly appreciate a hard copy or one sent by email to use with the article. Please keep submitting articles for the journal. It is a tremendous help. Kathy Niedergeses
Hello Kathy, As you know, I am not local but in the Dallas area. I'm interested in Flippo, Skillern, and Christian family photos if you should come across any. Also, any that might include Ona Christian Mabry of Leoma who was a long time active member of Fullers Chapel. It would now appear that my next trip your direction will be the Saturday after Mother's Day in order to attend the Mabry family get together to clean the cemetery at Fullers Chapel. When I was there before, I used a little cemetery book for the local cemeteries which was very useful. It now appears that Amanda Skillern Christian may have been buried at Summertown. Is there is book that includes Summertown? Thanks as always, Linda Christian
Hi, I am hoping to find where William Cummings Davis is buried. He is not buried in the Davis cemetary. He died about 1818. Thank you for any help or direction you can steer me to. Bonnie
Hi, I am giving early notice that the archives will be closed November 3rd and 4th in order for the staff to attend a seminar on local archives management and preservation. I will also be one of a few members participating in a panel discussion on local archives. (Please keep your fingers crossed that my mind does not go absolutely blank in front of people!) If you had planned on traveling to do research at the archives during this time, I am very sorry for the inconvenience. The library and the courthouse will still be open those days for researchers to use. Kathy Niedergeses, Director Lawrence County Archives
Hi everyone, The archives has been given some family photos and we would really like to find descendants of these families so they can have the pictures. Among the pictures are: Several of Seagraves families J. H. Foster and family Marcus, Arlie and Myrtle Crews Watson - small child If you know of someone descended from these families, please get in touch with the archives at our email address - lcarchives@lorettotel.net We also have a large collection of pictures of schools, churches, businesses, and various other miscellaneous categories. A lot of them are identifed, but a few are not. If you think you might be able to help identify some, please stop by the archives. Or, if you have old pictures that you will let the archives copy, please bring them by. We are filling large albums with these wonderful old pictures for people to view and have copies made if they wish. Kathy Niedergeses, Director Lawrence County Archives
I am researching all these ancestors that settled in Lawrence Co Tn. Anyone researching any of these, I would like to exchange information with.
Hi everyone, Once again it is time to start sending any queries that you wish to place in the December issue of the Lawrence County Genealogical Society's quarterly journal. This is a good opportunity to try to find someone who might be able to help you solve that problem person you have been working on for years. We have members all across the U.S. and many people have obtained some good info this way. If you are a member, queries are free and may be sent by email to lcarchives@lorettotel.net (Actually I prefer them by email so I don't have to retype them.) If you are not a member, queries are $2 each. The query and the $2 can be sent to the Lawrence County Genealogical Society, 218 N. Military Ave., Suite B-1, Lawrenceburg, TN 38464. Only two can be printed per person each journal unless space allows for more and we prefer you keep them to a limit of around 100 words. If you wish to become a member of our society, membership for 1 year is only $10, 1 year sustaining member $25, and lifetime $100. The money may be sent to the above address. You will receive four 40 page journals a year packed with info on different families, will abstracts, queries, book reviews, how to articles, pictures, and much more. We also have quarterly meetings and try to present an interesting program each time. A family history fair is held each year in June with hundreds of people attending from all across the U.S. Kathy Niedergeses

Much appreciation to all who responded to my request for information on the Old Lawrenceburg Cemetery on Waterloo Street. I believe that my ancestor is buried there; but as you mentioned it is likely that he has no marker. It is such a shame that so much wonderful information is lost to us. I am glad that someone tried to restore the cemetery as much as possible. Thanks again, Sherry
Hi, Just wanted to add a little to the questions about the Old City Cemetery. It definitely was bulldozed by some industrious person who thought they were helping clean it off. They did a great job - bushes, trees and most monuments all in a ditch! The Heritage Commission later restored the cemetery the best they could by just placing any markers that were not broken in too many pieces all in a row. So if you find your ancestor listed in this cemetery, where the marker is located may not necessarily be the exact spot they are buried. David Arnold to "Bonnie" and to Sherry Ledlow et al Listers, The City Cemetery or Old City Cemetery, according to the book, "Cemetery Records of Lawrence, County Tennessee," has been destroyed with few tombstones surviving. It was established in 1852 with many burials there prior to that date. In 1940 the Works Progress Administration did a survey with "100 graves with markers legible, 9 illegible, 17 fieldstones and estimated 225 unmarked graves here. Cemetery is in fair condition." By 1966 the grave stones had been destroyed with some broken and scattered about. I visited there several years ago, and it appeared that the entire area had been "bulldozed." In specific response to the requests below, there was no ASKEW (nor DENTON) listed in the 1940 survey. There was no Merry DAVIS, but there were several DAVISes listed: Cecil DAVIS, 11/18/1860 -- 8/25/1881 Dora DAVIS, 3/3/1885 -- 12/4/1886 Asariah P. DAVIS, 7/29/18ll -- 9/1886 Rebecca C. Hardwick DAVIS, 4/28/1815 -- 10/14/1896 Martha (Mattie) DAVIS, wife of Samuel A. The requests to the list were as follows: I am seeking information on an old cemetery located in the town of Lawrenceburg on Waterloo Street. I believe that my gg grandfather Lemuel B. Askew is buried there. Does anyone know if this cemetery has ever been surveyed? Are there any records in book form available? Lemuel was born 1803 and died after 1850. As a young man, Lemuel came to Lawrenceburg, TN where he owned some of the town lots. He operated a cabinet shop and was the town jailer. Lemuel was first known as Lemuel B. Denton. In 1837, he petitioned a judge in Lawrence county to change his name to Lemuel B. Askew. Ruling that Lemuel had showed good and sufficient reason, the judge granted his request. Any help on locating the grave or family information of Lemuel would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Sherry Ledlow End of requests. I was so surprised to see this request because I have been meaning to ask a question about this cemetary. Was it called the Old City Cemetary? If it is possible, could somebody tell me if Tennessee Mary Davis is buried there? She died about 1866. Thank you very much. Bonnie
