    1. [TNLAWREN-L] LCGS needs help
    2. Lawrence County Archives
    3. Hi everyone, I am looking for a few good volunteers who belong to the Lawrence County Genealogical Society. In every fourth issue for our society year, we include an index to all four journals. Donna and I have been doing a lot of the indexing in the past, but this year we have so much else to do that we would really appreciate a couple of volunteers. It does not involve a lot of "hard" work, just basically reading the journal again and writing down all the names and the page they are on as you come to them. You do not have to put them in any kind of alphabetical order. You can type them after writing them down and send them in an email attachment or send a disk, or you can send them written and we will type them. If you are interested in helping, please contact me and I will give you more specific directions. Thanks. Kathy Niedergeses, Director Lawrence County Archives

    1. [TNLAWREN-L] James Woolsey
    2. I am looking for any information on a James Woolsey, born in TN ca 1800-1815. He left home at an early age, married an Elizabeth Stone, and moved to DeSoto County, MS. They had 7 children. He and his second wife Laura Gilmore Carr, and one son, my grandfather, James Webster Woolsey. I have located an IGI file showing a James Woolsey, born 22 Nov 1813 to Samuel Woolsey and Cassandra Gilbird(Gilbert, I suspect). The names of his brothers and sisters seem to carry forward to his own children, the name of my grandfather as an example. This information is supposed to be from the Bible pages of an Alma Woolsey. Unfortunately, the submitter will not confirm the information as promised when contacted. Samuel Woolsey was the son of John Woolsey III and Sarah Oilphant, born in Greene Co., TN, later moved to Lawrence Co., TN. I would appreciate any information anyone might have to share, and I can share what I have. Thanks Norb in Tucson

    1. [TNLAWREN-L] More Wayne Co. TN page updates
    2. Edgar D. Byler, III
    3. Good evening all: I can't believe the Titans are going to the Superbowl in Atlanta. Yahoo!!! So don't expect of even thing about any new additions to the Wayne County, TN page next weekend; I'll be glued to the TV watching the game!!!! Have added some more history to teh page. I've posted an article entitled The Development of the Iron Industry in the Upper Buffalo River Valley. address: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnwayne/bufriver.htm That article should be of interest to anyone researching the iron industry in Northeast Wayne, Northwest Lawrence and Southern Lewis Counties in Tennessee. Have also added some new photographs to the Wayne County Photograph Album: 1. A set of 6 photographs from about 1925 of the Chemical Plant at Collinwood entitled "The 'Muscle Shoals Monthly' Photographs", address: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnwayne/collinwood/msm0.htm 2. 2 photographs of the Sam Coltrane - Myrtle Burns wedding party and reception from 1916. Address: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnwayne/collinwood/coltrane.htm Sam Coltrane was the manager of the Tennessee Valley Iron and Railroad Company's experimental farm north of Collinwood, TN. An interesting character appears in both photographs: Mr. John Peter Holm, who had been Danish Vice Consul at Perth Amboy NJ between 1900-1909 and was at the time of the photograph (1916), editor of the "Collinwood Pilot" newspaper. More to come later, but it will have to wait till after the Super Bowl next Sunday. Have fun. Edgar Edgar D. 1. [TNLAWREN-L] Ethel Dugger Henderson Descendants
    2. James Steve Sanders
    3. I am searching for descendants of Ethel Dugger Henderson who might could help me in my King/Yancey research. I'm not sure, but I believe Ethel and her husband John J. Henderson lived in Lawrence Co., TN. They did marry in Giles Co. Ethel's mother was Martha Ann White Dugger, daughter of Nancy Jane Yancey King White. Nancy Jane Yancey was married first to William A. King by whom she had 4 children. William A. died during the Civil War and Nancy Jane married James White by whom she had 7 children. I descend from Nancy Jane Yancey's first marriage to William A. King. I thought if I could get in contact with descendants of Ethel Dugger Henderson, they might possibly know something about the King family. Judy

    1. [TNLAWREN-L] research by archives staff
    2. Lawrence County Archives
    3. Hi, I just wanted to let everyone know that we have a new policy concerning research. I hate to do this, but it has become necessary. So many people have us do research, then do not pay after I list for them what we have on their ancestor, or that we do not have anything. Starting today, January 3, 2000, the archives will charge a $5 up front fee for any research we think will take over 15 to 20 minutes. Even if we do not find anything, we still spend time, and according to county policy have to charge for this. We think $5 is a small price to pay for spending an hour checking all our indexes, since we have so much information in many different records. Thanks for everyones support over the years. We hope to continue well into the 21st century providing this survive, or at least until we become too senile to find our way to work! Kathy Niedergeses, Director Lawrence County Archives
