I forgot to mention, since it is time to renew membership, at this point most people are considered non-memebers. After emailing your query, be sure to send your renewal dues before time for the Sept. issue to be printed. Thanks Kathy
The Lawrence County Genealogical Society is now accepting queries for our September issue of the Lawrence County Heritage journal. Queries are free to members, but a $2 fee is charged to non-members. If you are a member, you can email the queries to me at lcarchives@lorettotel.net. Non-members may also email their queries, then send the $2 within two weeks (actually I prefer this method since it saves time re-typing them). They can also be sent by regular mail to Lawrence County Genealogical Society, 218 N. Military Ave., Suite B-1, Lawrenceburg, TN 38464. Thanks, Kathy Niedergeses
Hi, Since our Lawrence County Genealogical Society's year runs from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31 of the following year, I just wanted to remind all members that it is time to renew your membership unless you are a lifetime member or have paid more than a year or so in advance. Dues are still $10 for one year, $25 for one year sustaining member and $100 for lifetime member. Make the check or money order payable to Lawrence County Genealogical Society and mail to 218 N. Military Ave., Suite B-1, Lawrenceburg, TN 38464. The fourth quarter journal was mailed Monday and most people should have theirs by now. By placing a large notice in the journal concerning payment of dues and this post, we hope most members will renew without the expense of sending out renewal notices to everyone. If you are not sure if you are a lifetime member or have paid more than one year in advance, email me and I will gladly check for you. New members are always welcome. The society publishes a 38-40 page quarterly journal packed with family genealogies, pictures, original records (wills, births, etc.), genealogy and history book reviews, queries and much more. Quarterly meetings are held in Sept., Dec., Mar., with the family history fair usually taking the place of the June meeting. Thanks, Kathy Niedergeses

Please let me take a minute to introduce myself. I am Jim Crowder. I have been persuaded, as of 11 June, to become the administrator for the TNLAWREN-L mailing list. I will be doing my best to keep the list operating at peak efficiency. I will be doing a lot of homework learning the ins and outs of mail lists. If I can be of help to you I will do so. If you have a question and I cannot answer it I will try my best to find out the answer and forward it to you. The TNLAWREN-L mailing list has operated well for several years now and I see no reason to make any changes. Be sure to keep your inquiries and findings going by posting to the mail list. We will all learn about our ancestors as we share information. Good hunting. Jim
Is anyone researching the name BOWEN? I am looking for information on the family of Robert Bowen who married Katie Clear in c.1899 Lawrence, Tenn. Does this sound familiar to anyone? ~~Alex
Hi: Does anyone have any information on Zachariah SMITH who was born @1858, Ind., and lived in Lawrence County, Tn. He was first married to Miranda, maiden name unknown, and then to Harriett Elizabeth EATON on 9 May 1921. I am not sure where this marriage took place, but the groom was 63 years old at the time. His name could have been William Zachariah "Zack" SMITH, and parents were possibly Richard and Rebecca SMITH. Zachariah is said to have died in Wayne County, Tn. and buried in Lawrence County, Tn. I am trying to help a friend of mine with her genealogy. Any information would be most welcome. Mary
Hi everyone, The Lawrence County Archives has a new book for sell. The book is titled "Strawfoot" The Life and Times of the 32nd Tennessee Infantry 1861-1865. It was compiled by Bill Skillian, indexed by Donna Ramsey and printed by Bobby Alford. Mr. Skillian donated the rights to the book to the archives and we receive a larger commission from this book to go toward purchasing other books and microfilm. The book is a history of the 32nd Infantry and includes information from diaries of men who served in the unit. It also contains as complete a roster as can be compiled of the men who served in the 32nd, including the medical staff, chaplain, musicians, casualty list and information on the battles. The book sells for $20 and can be ordered from the Lawrence County Archives, 218 N. Military Ave., Suite B-1, Lawrenceburg, TN 38464. Make the check or money order payable to Bobby Alford. We also still have copies of Mr. Skillian's first book Confederate Counties for sale at the same price. Kathy Niedergeses, Director Lawrence County Archives

Hi everyone, I hope many of you have plans to attend the Lawrence County Genealgocial Scoiety's Third Annual Family History Fair this weeked (Sat., June 17) at the Lawrence County High School from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. So far we have over 20 tables reserved by people from all across the U.S. who plan to bring their charts, pictures, notebooks, books, etc. and share their info with others who attend. In the past, we have had around 150 people in attendance and hope to have as many if not more this year. Many of the people who have attended have been able to make connections with other people working on the same family lines and gain valuable information. You DO NOT have to be a member of the society to attend. Admission is $1. If you need directions, more information, or would like to reserve a table (free), please get in touch with me at the email address above. I will be taking table reservations through Thurs., June 15. So, tell your friends and come join in the fun. Kathy Niedergeses, Director Lawrence County Archives
Hi everyone, Just wanted to remind everyone that it is getting close to time for the big event about which you will find information below. The Lawrence County Genealogical Society will hold their Third Annual Family History Fair Saturday, June 17, 2000, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Lawrence County High School located on Springer Rd. in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. A small admission fee of $1 will be charged. If you are interested in genealogy, this is a great opportunity to meet new people who are researching on your same family lines. We have had tremendous response to our fair the past two years and hope that everyone will continue to make it a great success. Each year we had well over one hundred people in attendance from twelve or more states. Last year information on eighty-five Lawrence County families was displayed on the various tables reserved by researchers. There were also vendors with many books for sell on Lawrence County, Giles County, and other surrounding counties. Everyone had a wonderful time swapping family charts, stories, pictures, etc. Food will be available on-site, so you will not have to leave to enjoy good food. As in the past, we hope to have a member of our society available to make copies of cherished photos with their camera for individuals for a small fee. A copy machine will be available for copies of any information you need copied. So bring, charts, notebooks, photographs, computers, etc. and join in the fun. If you are bringing information to share with others or books for sell, tables are available and free, but we do ask that you please make a reservation in order for us to be able to determine how many tables we need. Including the surnames of all the families you will have information on or the books you have for sell, will enable us to make a fair directory. You can be find a registration form on our web page at http://web.infoave.net/~lcarchives/lcgenso.htm; or you can email the society directly at lcarchives@lorettotel.net and tell them you need a table - be sure to include the surnames on which you will have information. Also, you can contact the archives by for a form or information on lodging, restaurants, maps, directions, etc. Lawrence County Archives, 218 N. Military Ave., Suite B-1, Lawrenceburg, TN 38464; telephone: 931-766-1576. Kathy Niedergeses, Director Lawrence County Archives
