    1. [TNLAWREN] School List
    2. William T. Gunn Jr.
    3. Since I am having such a hard time getting names of Cecil Gunns children's children, I am trying everything I can think of. I know all of Cecil's children went to school in Lawrence co, do records exist of children that attended school? I think that would be a good source of names, maybe birthdates, and maybe even addresses? Any one on this list know of Cecil Gunn, Mattie J. Church Gunn, or any of the Gunn kids? Thanks.

    1. RE: [TNLAWREN] Research List
    2. Mark Yost
    3. Thanks for the inquiry Jim. You're doing a terrific favor for us. Here's my information: Mark Yost; yost@peoplepc.com; Looking for information on family of James M. Howard b. ca. 1851. James M. Howard b. abt 1851 in Alabama, wife Martha b. abt 1859 in Alabama, and children Mary b. 1876 in Alabama and Mahala b. 1879 in Tennessee appear on the Lawrence Co. 1880 census in District 5. James was a farmer. They also had a son, Wiley, born in Tennessee in 1881. Wiley's death certificate from 1950 lists his birthplace as Lorelta (Loretto, I think). Family tells me that Wiley was born near a place called Old Bend River. James also appears in the Lawrence County tax books for 1881 and 1882 in District 5. In 1881 his property was bordered by Mr. Spears on the north, Mr. Mobley on the south, Mr. Edwiston (?) on the east and Mr. Pleniman (?) on the west. In 1882, Mr. Franke bordered his property on the south instead of Mr. Mobley. They do not appear in the tax books for 1885 or 1886, and I don't have easy access to tax books for 1883-1885, so I don't know when they left the county. I know they returned to Alabama because James remarries in 1888 in Blount County, Alabama and appears in the 1900 census in Blount County, Alabama. Based on all that I have, then, I think that the family arrived in Tennessee from Alabama about 1877-9 and returned to Alabama about 1883-4. Can anyone suggest any other records to consult to confirm what I have already found? -----Original Message----- From: Jim Crowder [mailto:jcrowder@usit.net] Sent: Wednesday, January 24, 2001 9:41 AM To: TNLAWREN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [TNLAWREN] Research List Hi Gang, I have had very good response to the call for a research list compilation and am about ready to post the list. However, I am resending my query about our research list as: a) a gentle reminder to those who may not have responded and wish to do so and b) for the benefit of new list subscribers who may want to participate. - - - - - - - - - - - - Several months ago (July/August) I published a list of researchers on this list in response to input received from you. Although there has been very little exchange of information on the list there has been some turnover in subscribers. For that reason, I will again publish a compilation if you will provide me with the info necessary. As last time, I will publish the list in the following format: Name of Researcher; e-mail address; Name(s) of families being researched If you wish to be included, please respond listing the above information. I will wait several weeks to allow sufficient time for responses to be received then I will publish the information to the list. 1. [TNLAWREN] White book
    2. Lawrence County Archives
    3. Hi everyone, A new book has just become available for researchers "The Family of John & Mary "Polly" White, 1790-2000" by Josephine Willis Pickard. The book can be purchased from the Lawrence County Archives, 218 N. Military Ave., Suite B-1, Lawrenceburg, TN 38464. The check should be made to Josephine Pickard in the amount of $30 plus $3.95 shipping. John White was born around 1790 in NC, while Mary (last name unknown) was born around 1800 in TN. They are found in the Giles County, TN 1820 census with two children under the age of 10. A few years later they have moved to Lawrence Co., TN where they raised twelve children. John purchased several pieces of property in southeast Lawrence Co. and was a prosperous farmer. Their children were: 1) Mahala White m. Coffee Garner; 2) Henry White m. 1st Elizabeth McMasters, 2nd Mary (Susie Ann) Doggett; 3) Elender Jane White m. Raford F. Pearce; 4) Albert Jackson White m. Mariah Scholes; 5) William Bethel White m. Susan Hardiman; 6) Sarah A. E. White m. Thomas Jefferson Frazier; 7) James Marion White m. Amanda Scholes; 8) John Franklin White m. 1st Ann G. Durrett, 2nd Cynthia Caroline Shelton; 9) Emily C. White m. Thomas H. Alsup; 10) George Washington White m. Parthenia Shelton; 11) Mary Louisa White m. Joseph Rose Durrett; 12) Cyrenius White m. 1st Martha Malissa Crowder, 2nd Alice Della Williams Oliver. Most of these twelve children stayed in Lawrence Co. and had large families who intermarried with many other families in the area. Kathy Niedergeses, Director Lawrence County Archives

    1. [TNLAWREN] Law. Co. photos
    2. Lawrence County Archives
    3. Hi everyone, Below I have cut and pasted a message sent to me over the weekend by Mike Salvucci. The archives had loaned him many of our old photos of different areas of the county a year or so ago. "I've got the Local History section back up on Lawrenceburg.com. Visitors will now be able to move around and look at each photo in order instead of having them pop up randomly. In the future, I'll be able to allow people to upload their own photos." When you go to http://www.lawrenceburg.com, click on the history section and it will take you to the photo section. Instead of having to exit the page and come back to see each different picture, Mike now has it organized so you can just click next picture and keep on going until you see all of them. You can also enlarge each picture for a close up view. So click away and enjoy. Kathy Niedergeses, Director Lawrence County Archives
