    1. ([TNLAWREN])Re: Retiring from Lawrence County Archives, new email
    2. Congratulations!!! You told me this summer that you were going to finally get to do it. I still haven't haven't got use to the idea that I don't have to get up and get to work. I push myself too hard. I don't want to join anything or commit to doing something weekly at a certain time. I worked since I was 16, but the last place I punched a time clock for 48.5 years. They said don't go home and go down. I said I'm going down at work. You have served Lawrence Co. most of your life. Now you need to do something for yourself. Enjoy life while you can. Enjoyed knowing you over the years. Martha Hicks Pierce

    1. ([TNLAWREN])Archives will no longer sell most books we normally stock after Christmas
    2. Kathy Niedergeses
    3. As many of you know, the Lawrence County Archives has stocked and sold a large variety of genealogy related books starting the 1990s. One of our vendors, Mary Nell Franks, died recently. Another vendor, Bobby Alford, will be moving his books to his home and will still sell a few from there. That leave on a few vendors that will allow us to sell their books. However, it is a possibility that after the first of the year, the county may decide we may no longer stock any books. If you wish to purchase a book from the list on our webpage, now is the time to do so. http://home.lorettotel.net/~lcarchives/lawrbks.htm Some of these are already out of stock, but I have not had time to change the web page. I personally still have some books for sell - marriages 1818-1999, three separate books for different prices; several obituary books for most of the years from 1846-2017. 2018 will also be available around February. You may contact me at this email address if you wish to purchase them: lcarchives@lorettotel.net. The prices are on our web page. I will keep the web page active for those vendors who wish to still have their books listed and will include an email or phone number for you to contact them personally. Thanks Kathy Niedergeses, Director Lawrence Co. Archives & Board Member Lawrence County Genealogical Society Lawrence County Archives 2588 Hwy. 43 S Leoma, TN 38468 931-852-4091

    1. ([TNLAWREN])Retiring from Lawrence County Archives, new email
    2. Kathy Niedergeses
    3. Hi everyone, I will be retiring from the Lawrence County Archives at the end of December after 30 years. Parting will be sad for me because I love the work I do, but there are other things in life I would like to accomplish. I will miss the wonderful people I have met and continue to meet every day. Ashley Armstrong will be the new Archives Director/Archivist. This is her first experience working at an archives, but has been researching for about 15 years. She has a degree in history, worked with Dr. Van West at the Institute for Historic Preservation at MTSU, and is very excited about the prospect of assisting researchers in the future. Although she is not from Lawrence County, she does have a family connection in the McDougal family that was here early in the county's history. I hope you will welcome her. When I leave there will be a new email address for the archives - lawrencecountyarchives@gmail.com. You can email Ashley to welcome her at this email now, and if you have questions or need research, you can contact her at this email in the future. The address and phone number will remain the same. Although I am leaving the archives, I will still be visiting it to research for articles I write for the LCGS journal and to continue a little research on my family. I will also do research in my spare time for anyone who needs me. So who knows, I may see some of you there. Thanks for everything. 3. Hello John:My Guthrie's and Beal's were from Giles Co., Tn.  I have tracked them for years.  My gr-gr-grandmother Ann Beal Guthrie Moody had a sister Nancy Beal who married John J. Morphis and they were in Lawrence co., Tn. before coming to Pope Co., Ar.Glad to see some activity here.Betty (Guthrie) McCollum On Tuesday, July 31, 2018, 7:38:42 PM CDT, John Abernathy via TNLAWREN <tnlawren@rootsweb.com> wrote: Still tracking things in Lawrence and Giles were I was born. Genealogical Society Hi everyone, First, I am beginning to wonder if anyone is still subscribed to this list since there has not been any activity except for an announcement by Richard Berkheiser who took over for Jim Crowder after his death. But, if you are still out there listening, I have two requests. As writer, editor, design, etc. for the Lawrence County Genealogical Society's quarterly journal, I would like to request (make that BEG) for family articles, stories and pictures to place in the journals. There is no charge to run them along with pictures of your family. All you have to do is compile anywhere from one page to 10 or so pages relating the details about your family history, stories of the family, anything that would be of interest to our readers. Just attach them to an email and send to me at lcarchives@lorettotel.net. I will proof the article, or even help write part (but not all) of it if you need assistance. If you are a member, you already have samples of the different styles used in the past. If not a member, I can attach some examples and send to you. Also, it is once again time to renew your dues to the society. They are still the low price of $15.00 per year. In exchange you will receive 4 issues of 40 pages filled with articles on families, businesses; transcribed records; pictures; and many other topics. This is a quality journal and I do hope each of you will continue to subscribe. We also need new members and would appreciate it if you would pass the word along about our society and the journals. Just send the $15.00 made out to the Lawrence County Genealogical Society (or LCGS) to 2588 Hwy. 43 S, Leoma, TN 38468. 1. ([TNLAWREN]) William Alfred Byrd “brick wall”
    2. Marilyn Nulty
    3. I am still searching for ancestral family of William Alfred Byrd (Bird). According to 1880 Census, Louisiana, Sabine Parish, City of Toro, of Son Alfred William Byrd, he was born in Tennessee about 1808. He married a Rebecca Archer in May 1829 in Lawrenceburg, Lawrence County TN at the home of Rev. Thomas Archer. They had their first two children, William Alfred (about 1830) and Alfred William (27 Jan 1839) in Tennessee. They were then found in Attalla County MS where daughters Elizabeth(1840), Mary(1844) and Rebecca(1845) and son James Houston Byrd(24 May 1850) were born. They were then found in Choctaw County MS 1850 Census, then in Jackson Parish LA 1860 Census, then in Ward 2 Sabine Parish LA 1870 census. He died in 1875 in Louisiana and his widow Rebecca and youngest daughter Rebecca are found in the 1880 Census living with the youngest child James Houston(Doc) a widower and his three children. I have no information on William Alfred Byrd Sr.’s parents or siblings. I am stuck in the muck. Any help would be so greatly appreciated.
