Surnames: Holifield; Walden Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GgB.2ACE/542.1 Message Board Post: While I am not at all sure that these two persons are in any way related, I too am looking for an Ida Holifield who lived in Tiptonsville, TN during the period of 1897 through 1913. Whether or not she is related to Minister M.J. Holifield has not been established. I am in possession of copies of at least three letters that she wrote during that time period and the letters discuss her relationship to her Walden ancestors of Virginia. I would appreciate any information on Ida Holified, or any relative Holifield information that would allow me to identify her. I would be most interested in communicating with any descendants of Ida Holifield or any one who knew of her in Tiptonsville. Thank you. Eldred W. Melton

    2. Seems I didn't clarify myself. Hope this does. USGenNet is what is having problems. They provide the FREE USGenWeb sites that you use for states and counties. I was requesting help for them only. The site I furnished IS a temporary site for USGenNet update information which was provided. http://www.californios.us/usgn/ Rootsweb has no problem at all. They are NOT related to the FREE genealogy county website. They receive money from subsciptions to Ancestry.com. I'm sorry - I was just trying to help the FREE genealogy world we have come to rely on. uoting lmoore@ecsis.net: > Let me clarify - Rootsweb was NOT asking in the email - it was totally > me as a > supporter of the genealogy world. > > I beg to differ with you though - Anyone who has tried to reach most of > the > USGenWeb sites that are housed on the server are aware of the problem > and we - > as County Coordinators have been getting regular updates. > > Please everyone - I just wanted to make you aware of the problems. 1. [TNLake] Re: CAUTION! - Genealogy Related Plea
    2. Let me clarify - Rootsweb was NOT asking in the email - it was totally me as a supporter of the genealogy world. I beg to differ with you though - Anyone who has tried to reach most of the USGenWeb sites that are housed on the server are aware of the problem and we - as County Coordinators have been getting regular updates. Please everyone - I just wanted to make you aware of the problems. As I said in my first sentence of the email. Delete if you are not interested. I will make no further statements on this - research it if you are interested in giving. If you are not interested in supporting all the genealogy sites then please delete this email and disregard statements sent by ANYONE regarding this. 2. Leslie Moore
    3. I hope no one is offended by this request - if so please delete. This has to do with Rootsweb lists, free genealogy web sites, surname lists, county lists, etc. I'm sure you are all aware of the server breakdown which has most of the state and county websites down. They simply outgrew the server and - before money could be found to purchase a new server it crashed. The email lists were down too but are running on a patched server until the new server can be built and delivered and set up. To explain it better I will borrow from some of the email updates I have received: Update: The USGenNet server crashed the weekend just after Thanksgiving. USGenNet’s Board of Directors has voted unanimously to purchase a new server. The server has been ordered on Monday morning, 2 December, and will be delivered on or before December 9th. More specific information will be added here as it becomes available. This is the temporary USGenNet info site: http://www.californios.us/usgn/ USGenNet’s financial need is an ongoing one. Even after money is raised to pay for the server, there is the ongoing expense of Bandwidth. USGenNet currently spends $600.00 every month to keep the hosted sites online, and by January, 2003 we will be spending even more. We need your continuing support! Donations may be made by mail and sent to our Treasurer: Rhoda Fone 999 Bridgeport Way Rio Vista, California 94571 [Please make checks payable to USGenNet] Donations may also be made through PayPal. Paypal payments should be made to: usgtreas@aol.com USGenNet is grateful for every donation received, in any amount. Every dollar donated helps us keep genealogical and historical data freely available to all. Every penny donated is spent on operating expenses and equipment. USGenNet is staffed by volunteers and pays no salaries. Folks we have depended on USGenNet to provide us all with FREE genealogy information, it's time we pitched in a bit to help all we can in this time of need. Please consider donating.
