Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GgB.2ACE/613.1 Message Board Post: Lake Co, TN Banner Two Deaths by Evan Jones, Banner Editor From: 5-31-04 A motorcycle-vehicle accident on the Great River Road in Dyer County claimed the lives of a Lake County couple Saturday night. Jason Glidewell and his wife, Angela, both 32, of Tiptonville, were pronounced dead at the scene after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a car. The accident put a pall on the Memorial Day weekend in Lake County and stunned the community. Both of the popular young adults had large families in the Tiptonville/north Lake County area. Trooper Bryan Avery of the Tennessee Highway Patrol was the investigating officer and he was assisted by Sgt. Tansil Phillips. Also working the accident were the Dyer County Sheriff’s Department and the Dyersburg Regional EMS. Avery said the Glidewells had been to Everett’s Lake and were heading to the Great River Road racetrack when the accident took place. The accident took place about four miles south of the I-155 overpass. They were traveling north on SR 181 with David Hammer of Tiptonville, also on a motorcycle, when the accident took place. Avery said the motorcycles were staggered on the northbound side of the highway with Hammer in the lead. They met a 1999 Altima driven by Sherri Michelle Lee, 21, of Finley. The trooper’s report stated that after meeting Hammer, Lee ran off the roadway, came back on it, overcorrected and went into a slide. "When she lost control, the motorcycle hit the front on the passenger side," he said. The accident took place about 9:15 p.m. "He (Jason Glidewell) basically had no reaction time," added the trooper. He said there were no indications of braking skid marks by the motorcycle. They leave a daughter, Emily Nicole Glidewell, 7. They were both graduates of Lake County High School. A joint visitation and service was held at First Baptist Church in Tiptonville. Visitation was at 5 p.m. Monday for the family and 6 p.m. for the public. Mourners filled the church and lined up outside the church and across the parking lot to pay their respects. The service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Martin delivering the message and assisted by Rev. Eric Burress. Burial was at Lake Memorial Gardens just east of Tiptonville with Dyersburg Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers for Jason were David Hammer, Russell Covington, Jon Dickey, Shane Ervin, Jeremy Hopper and Jason Stanley. Jason Andrew Glidewell was born on May 8, 1972, in Winter Park, Fla. He was an electrical worker employed by TVA and a member of Electrical Union #573. He leaves his father, Bobby Glidewell, and his mother, Angela Marie Morrow Glidewell. He also leaves two brothers, Cory Glidewell of Tiptonville and Brian Hays of Walnut Log. He was preceded in death by a brother, Chris Glidewell and a sister, Amy Elizabeth Glidewell. He was the grandson of Betty Kate Glidewell of Phillippy and the late John D. Glidewell and Cecil and Katie Morrow of Dyersburg, and Virginia Hays and the late Kenyon Hays. Angela Renee Glidewell was born on Jan. 31, 1972, in Union City, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Lake County High School and received her college degree at UT Martin. She was active in Girl Scouts, the Margaret Newton PTO and Relay for Life. Pallbearers for Angela were Jason Tolley, Mike Fraley, Wayne Badger, Joey Williams, Steve Jones and Stacey Rivers. She leaves her mother and father, David and Patricia Nance of Tiptonville, and a sister, Karen Nance Kimbrell of Tiptonville. She was the granddaughter of the late Ralph and Mozelle Nance and the late James and Mabel Douthit. She was employed as an eligibility counselor with the Tennessee Department of Human Services in Tiptonville. ****************** Gay Mathis
