He was a retired farmer, and retired long-time school bus driver, a man known for his good deeds for others. Visitation was Saturday evening. Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cottonwood Grove Baptist Church, with the pastor, the Rev. Mackie Prince, the Rev. Ralph Buckley, former pastor of Wynnburg Baptist Church, and the Rev. Jonathan Lail, pastor of Cottonwood Baptist Church, officiating. Pallbearers were Kent Patterson, Trent Patterson, Tony Bargery, Sammy Price, Chris Tittle and Marty Jordan. Honorary pallbearers were Aaron Staulcup and Jere Ozment. Burial was in New Haven Cemetery of Ridgely. He was born Aug. 16, 1919, in the Hathaway community south of Ridgely, to the late Earl Hendrix Bargery and John Harry Bargery. He married Martha Sue Miller on Oct. 25, 1939, in Caruthersville, Mo. She preceded him in death. He was a member of Cottonwood Grove Baptist Church, where he was a deacon for 60 years. Besides farming, he drove a school bus for the Lake County School System for 28 1/2 years, and did maintenance work for many local businesses in Lake County. He was a great favorite of the students who rode his bus, and also, though a "senior citizen" himself, often shared vegetables, chauffeured and performed many kinds of deeds for others. He leaves three daughters, Sandra Gant of Tiptonville, Donna O'Steen of Ridgely, and Martha Ann Brooks of Newbern; three sons, Paul Bargery of Tiptonville, Jerry Lynn Bargery of Newbern, and Dallas Bargery of Ridgely; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; six step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Dale Bargery. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis.

He was a farmer, World War II veteran, and former county magistrate. Visitation was Monday evening at Ridgely Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the chapel, with the Rev. Raymond Boston officiating. Music was provided by David Willard and Susanne Arrington. Pallbearers were Ryan Welch, Scott Staggs, John Tickle, Willard Bargery, Jerry Lynn Bargery, and Tony Bargery. Burial was in New Haven Cemetery of Ridgely. He was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Lake County to the late Leaffie Parnell Bargery and John Bargery, Lake County pioneers. He entered active duty in the U.S. Army in July, 1942, trained in Arizona and Tennessee. He was in Company C., 317th Infantry, Third Army, under Gen. Patton. He landed on Omaha Beach, swept through France with the Third Army, and received a Purple Heart after being wounded in a battle at Argentan, at Pont A. Moussou on Sept. 5, 1944, crossing the Mosselle River. He was a member of Hathaway Baptist Church, was a deacon, church treasurer, Sunday School teacher. Besides being a magistrate, he served on the Tax Equalization Board of Lake County. He married Mildred Nova Lee Williams on June 5, 1945. They had been married for 60 years. He leaves his wife, Mildred Bargery, of Ridgely; two daughters, Linda Welch and husband, Jimmy, and Faye Tickle and husband, Sammy, all of Dyersburg; a sister, Mary Crossett of Iuka, Miss.; three grandchildren, Amy Staggs, Ryan Welch and John Tickle; three great-grandchildren, Ellen Staggs, Matthew Staggs, and Anna Staggs. Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Society, Heart Association Diabetes Association or the charity of the donor's choice.

Feb 10, 1900, Esther, and others (names unknown). My father-in-law also remembers that J.T. was a blacksmith in Trimble or Parsons in Lake County. I am guessing this job might be in the mid 1900's. Doea anybody have an Emmaline flovella Smith in their line anywhere? She was born abt. 1895 in Reelfoot, Lake Co., Tennessee. Her father was Ed M. Smith born abt. 1859 in Tennessee. I don't know the name of his first wife who was Emma's mother. He married 2nd to Birdie London in Mo. I know he had a brother named Joe born 1881 and a niece named Gladys. But that is pretty much all I know of him. Emma married a Willis E. Davis. Would love to find out more about Ed and Emma's mother. Thanks, Vickie
