My Mother resently died. At the time of her death, she was divorced from my father. He had remarried and is now buried beside his second wife. Mother took her maiden name back. They were married 30 years and there were five of us childen from their marriage. The QUESTION is should their be any thing on her head stone stating that she was ever married to my father????? I have never seen anything like this before or even heard of it. Thank you DRICE
Drice, Is your main concern that the descendants in the future will not know this is their ancestor because they will assume she never married therefore never had children or are the children uncomfortable with her maiden name on the tombstone ? I think people in the future will know that when women in this time period divorced, they often took back their maiden name. She has documents to show she married and divorced. I assume that each of her children has a birth certificate that has the mother and father listed on it. If the descendants get that far, they will look for a marriage on her and maybe her divorce. I don't think it matters to her anymore. It only matters to her children, so put what all of you are comfortable with.
