Hi, Does anyone know what civil district number the Ball Camp community would have been on the 1900 and/or 1910 census? Thanks for any help, Bonnie THOMAS, LYLE, CRISP, GIDEON, PALMER, CLEVELAND, DRAKE, HITCH, MCDANIEL, HUTSELL, RENFRO, BALLARD
Dear Everybody, This is a broad net search to see if anyone can help me with my brick walls. Some of you I have written to over the years, and some are new correspondents. I'm sending this to the county groups in hopes that someone new who just started may have the answers for all of us. Below is what I have on these families, listed by family name. I am just listing the earliest names , and a few dates: BEELER 1. Johan Michael B. 1680, SWiss. M. Anna Catherine. D. 1853, PA 2. Ulrich B 1705, Swiss, M Maris Eliz. D 1778, Lancaster, PA 3. John Valentine B 1737 Lancaster, PA, M. Mary Ann TURNEY, D. 1823, Sullivan Co., TN 4. Joseph Peter, B. 1762, Frederick Co., Va, Mar Katherine PETRIE, D. 1845, Grainger Co., TN 5. Daniel B. 1802 Grainger, Tn., Mar Louvinia WOLFENBARGER, D. 1825 in Grainger 6. Peter, B. 1830 Graianger, Mar Margaret ELY , D. 1864. I have most of the children and spouses of the above, and all of the direct descendant of Peter and Margaret. What I need with this family is the date of Margarets death (after 1874) , place of burial and her mother (Margaret JONES) parents. Be glad to share anything about the above with anyone. ADKINS 1. Lewis B 5 May 1785, Grainger Co., TN, Mar Elizabeth MONROE in 1804. Died 14 Jun 1868 2. Robert (Robin) B. 16 Jan 1817, Mar Fereby (Phoebe) HILL, 1816 in GRainger. Mar in Grainger in 1838. I need Lewis parents names and places of birth. I have always speculated that he was a son of Elijah and Nancy HUNTER, or the orphaned nephew of somebody. I also need the parents of Fereby (Phoebe). I have all the chilren od Lewis and Elizabeth with spouses, and all the descendants of Robert and Fereby and will gladly share. ELY 1. Thomas B 1725 in England, Mar to Janes ELiz. Smith. Died 1782 inBedford Co, VA. 2. John B 1755, Mar to Barbara FRY, D.Feb. 1838 3. John T. B. 1790 in Montgomery Co., Va., Mar to Margaret JONES, in Lee Co., VA., D. 1860 in PUlaski Co., KY 4.Margaret B. 1829 in Lee Co., VA., Mar to Peter BEELER in 1850, D. 1874(?+) in Grainger Co., TN ?? As stated above, I need the parents of Margaret JONES and the death and burial of Margaret (ELY) BEELER. I also have these descendants MONROE 1 John B. 1710 in Lunenberg, VA, Mar to Rosannah, D C. 1790 2. William T. B 1740, in Lunenberg, VA.,Mar to Mary UNKNOWN, D 1769? 3. Robert B. 1763 in Lunenberg, VA. M to Rosannah PUCKETT in 1786 D. 1836 in GRainger Co., TN. 4. Mark B. 1793 in Knox Co., TN, Mar to Nancy DAVIS in 1814, D. 1870 in GRainger Co., 5. William George B. 1836 Mar to Adeline ADKINS 1867, D. Oct 1907. The stumbling block here is who is the mother of the first four children who were born before Robert married Rosannah in 1786. They were George B. 1782, Elizabeth B. 1784 (my husband's line. She married Lewis ADKINS, see above) , Nancy B. 1785 and maybe John B 1786. Were they born before they married, were they orphaned nieces and nephews from a sibling and Robert and Rosannah adopted them, were they either his or hers from a prior marriage. Janie is often mentioned as Robert's wife. Was she Rosannah, or was she a sister or cousin or ? to Rosannah, or are the names interchangable. I have most of these children and their spouses, but no children. My biggest problem is that my husband descends from both Lewis ADKINS and Elizabeth MONROE and Mark MONROE and Nancy DAVIS. If ELizabeth and Mark have different mothers, then I have some different searching to do. Robert' s children were: 1. George B. 1782, Mar to Elizabeth PETERS, D. 1869 2. Elizabth B. 1784, Mar to Lewis ADKINS D. 1865 3. Nancy B 1785, Mar to Richard ATKINS D. 1858 4. John B 1786 Mar to Eave WYRICK, D. 1855 5. Polly B. 1789, Mar to Richard ATKINS D 1809 6. Margaret B 1791, Mar to John WYRICK D. 1810 7. Barbery B 1792, Mar to John KITTS. D 1866 8. Mark B. 1793 Mar. to Nancy DAVIS B 1879 Mark and Nancy had the following children: 1. Lee Anderson, B 1815, Mar. to Nancy ADKINS, D 1887 2. Lucinda B 1816, Mar to Hiram BAKER, D. 1871 3. Calvin B 1818, Mar to Rosannah COLVIN, D. 1871 4. James B 1820, Mar to Margaret BRYAN 5. Cirenia B. 1822, Mar to Charles Y.O. WARWICK (WYWICK), D 1849 5. Orleania B 1823, Mar to Emanual WARWICK 6. Vilania B 1825, Mar to Emanuel WARWICK, D 1850 7. Isaac, B 1827, D 1892 8. Mary (Nervy) B 1831, Mar Alexander Leinart, D. 1891 9. Amanda B 1833, Mar to John P. WARWICK 10. William George, B. 1836, Mar (1) to Lucinda BRANSON), (2) Adeline ADKINS, (3) Elizaberth WARRICK. D. 1907 11. Elizabeth (twin of Wm. Geo. 12. John B 1839, Mar to Ruth TURNER. DAVIS 1. Isaac B 1772, Prince William Co., VA, Mar to Mary UNKNOWN. 2. Nancy B. 11 July 1795 in Va., Mar to Mark MONROE in 1814., D. in GRainger in 1853. I have never been able to find out any more about Nancy's parents. but I do have all the names of their children's spouses. John II, B. 3 July 1745 Pasquotank, N.C., Mar to Letisha JENNINGS, D 1800 6. John III, B 1791, Mar to Polly BROCK D/O George BROCK and Amy DYER). D. 27 Jun 1851 7. Catherine B 13 Mar 1822, Mar to Joseph Peter WOLFENBARGER, D 6 July 1903 in GRainger So., TN. Again, I have most of the children, altho: with the NEEDHAMS, I only have the direct line. As I said, I have more specific dates for some of the above, some of which I got from some of you, some from the usual sources. Almost all is proven, EXCEPT the MONROE familyback from Robert. That remain a supposition, so please don't cite me as a source on that. If anyone has any corredction or additions on any of this, please write, and PLEASE WRITE, if anyone has anything on my brick walls. Glad to talk to some of you again, and the rest of you for the first time. Good HUnting to one and all. Earlene Hutsell ok1WE1@aol.com

I am searching for info on Thomas N. Clark, one of the first attorneys in Knox County. He was in the county in 1812. Nancy McGinty
Okay, I have chosen to follow this lead as family until I am proven otherwise. Does anyone have these people in there in their family lines: Samuel Gibson, b.9/1/1878 in Knoxville, TN - d.Jan 1964 (TN?) SS#: 292-18-7154. Parents: James Gibson and Florence Garmon. Today I received an SS-5 on this particular Samuel Gibson - the data is too coincidentally close to "my" Samuel for me not to follow up. I have since sent away for and am currently awaiting receipt of the Death Cert for this Samuel. Hopefully it will come soon... Regards, Virginia Gibson Di Donato Searching: Gibson, Brown
Hi, The letter below I came across while searching for information on my Jacob Thomas of Blount Co., TN. He died in Maryville, TN. in 1804. The letter below speaks of Jacob Thomas and his wife, not named, of Knox Co., TN. I believe that in Knox Co. Court Records in 1818, this Jacob testified he was a Baker of Bread. But now too old to do this anymore. I hope someone recognizes the family name of the person doing the inquiry and/or someone might know a little more about Jacob Thomas of Knox Co., TN. Thanks, Barb ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ November 21, 1938 Mrs. S. W. Jack BA-J/ILL S. 2625 Garfield Road Jacob Thomas Spokane, Washington. Jacob Thomas was allowed pension on his application executed May 1, 1818, at which time he resided in Knox County, Tennessee. Pioneer settlers arrived in present-day Knox, Jefferson, Cocke, Hamblen, and Sevier Counties shortly after the end of the Revolutionary War. Today, it's hard to imagine what foods they ate, what clothes they wore, and what their lives were like in general. On Sunday, March 24, 2002, modern citizens of this area can learn about the original settlers from Robert McGinnis, site director of Knoxville's James White's Fort. McGinnis is an expert in pre-statehood East Tennessee history. Donning period-appropriate costumes and using antique artifacts as props, he recreates pioneer characters in lectures around the region. Mr. McGinnis will give his presentation from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the Sevier County Heritage Museum, 167 E. Bruce Street (old post office), Sevierville. The public is invited, and there is no charge for admission. In addition to the talk by Mr. McGinnis, costumed members of the John Sevier Chapter of the Sons of the Revolution will be available to answer questions and demonstrate the use of period artifacts. For more information about the event or the Museum, call 865-453-4058 or visit on-line at http://www.korrnet.org/schm/

Hi List, I found this in the "Somebody's Links" Newsletter: --------------------------------------------------------- " While looking around an nearby antique store on 2 March 2002 we came across a scrapbook that, as far as we can tell, belonged to Mrs. Lula BROCK DRAPER of Knoxville, Tennessee. It contains many newspaper clippings and cards from her daughters and we would really like to return it to the family. -- Names mentioned in the newspaper articles are Dr. Lewis E. RHODES (an article regarding the rebuilding of Broadway Baptist Church); Kathryn Ann CHESNEY (SELBY); Mrs. P. A. PALMER; Mrs. John WHITED; Mrs. Mildred MYERS; Mrs. Gordon TATE; Sid NICELY; Hugh DAVIS; Dr. Charles E. HAMILTON; Fate HAMILTON; Mrs. Forest HAMILTON; Forest S. HAMILTON; W. Ernest HAMILTON; Henry T. SEYMOUR; H. T. SEYMOUR; Odra (?) NEEDHAM; John AYRES, Sr.; Mrs. Elabeth HALL (ZACHARY); Avis HALL (SHARP); Frank B. HALL and Harry HALL. -- There is a church program referring to Elmer and Virginia BAILEY and Velma Rhea TURBETT on their departures from Broadway Baptist Church in May 1960. -- There is also a heartbreaking Christmas letter from a Nira HAMILTON to Mrs. DRAPER in which the death of Mrs. HAMILTON's husband, Lee, is discussed. We will be making scanned copies of most of the articles and the letters and will be happy to send a copy by e-mail to anyone who could use them. As for the scrapbook, we would like to see it returned to the family of Lula BROCK DRAPER. Please use the subject line DRAPER SCRAPBOOK. Thank you." Those who have been having trouble finding some of their names in soundex lists will want to take a look at Tony Burrough's article on the soundex in the Dec 2001 National Genealogical Society Quarterly. This several page article describes a couple of much lesser known rules that can make a serious difference in how a few names are soundexed, as well as reviewing the better known rules. It's under copywrite, and several pages long, so people won't be able to copy the entire article to any list--at least not without NGS &/or Tony's permission. Many larger libraries have subscriptions to this magazine. It could also probably be obtained from Allen county library (originators of Persi), or contact me off-line. Karen
