Hi, My name is Conniesue and I am new to the Macon County, North Carolina List I am trying to search my Oneal line of which I know virtually nothing of. I do know that my father's patrnal grandmother was LAURA MORGAN ONEAL. She was born in Cowee Township, Macon County, North Carolina in 1860. She lived with her step-father Gilbert Hughes until 1874. She married DAVID ONEAL in 1974 in Loudon County, Tennessee. They had these children: Laura L. Minnie and/or Lizzie William Price or William E.P.(My grandfaher) There is a possibility that they had these children, but it was under the spelling ONEILL that they were found: Maggie James W. David F. David dropped offf the fact of the earth after the marriage. Laura is on the Guion-Miller Roll under Laura Oneal ( which is strange because if a woman is Native Americnan sheusually goes by her maiden name. There is defintely Cherokee in my heritage just not sure what side. I guess she may have used David's name for the children. She is on the 1910 census with PRICE only at the age of 18. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Just a reminder, the pre-1850 censuses only list heads of families with hash marks for age groups of family members, segregating males & females. It does tend to make using these "chicken scratch" censuses more challenging than later ones, and they have somewhat less information than others as they don't list birth state, etc, but put with other sources, can be a help. On the subject of early Knox. Tax Lists, once I found some lists from the era of 1826-1831 of Knox Co. I hurriedly wrote down the entries for my Holmes family, not bothering to note the source, or anything else. I have come to regret that, of course. Today I would like to know the other names on the lists. All I noted were the Holmes names in the company of Capt. Low, and the company of Capt. Gounds (probably Goins, or Goings). I think the lists were in some old historical volumes of Tennessee. Can anyone help me get back to my source? Archie Holmes at Holmesatkinson@cs.com

Hi Stan, I have checked all of my resources and dont show him as being held here. I ran all names from Wisconsin on record,,,and there are only 2 beginning with SA on record,,,neither could be him. There were reported to have been about 300 escapes from Andersonville,,,all but about 2 dozen were recaptured. Keep in mind that of the 45000 held here, only 32000 records survived the war. If you find any documents showing he was here, please let me know as I have the where and who to send copies amd get him on record.
