Say, great to hear from the "Ole Pros" again. Trust you are doing OK as we are. Thanks for the PROBST data. As you will well remember, a yr ago we were working hard in Rowan Co, NC 1760-1830 on the clan of Balzer DUTTRO whose eldest son left his family in Rowan Co ca 1818 and reportedly migrated to Knox Co, TN where he reportedly m 1/1/1820 to a Susan PROAPS. As no one has ever found this m in Knox Co rec, and there is an exact date, I suspect that the m could have been in another county?? Also, this Balzer DUTTRO had a dau Catherine who m 29 Dec 1802 a Peter YOUNG, which is hoped to be my long lost gf!!! Also, in the 1880s, a Margaret CLEMMER [believed to be my gm and a widow of the famous Valentine CLEMMER who d 1786 PA] shows up in Rowan Co, purchases land 6 Feb 1787 in Rowan Co wit by Balzer, and who m a infamous Wm HANCOCK 1 Mar 1792 in Rowan Co with Balzer as bondsman. This Margaret then disappears ca 1795 from Rowan Co and shows up in Lincoln Co on 1800 cen 6 doors from John DETROW who I believe to be her bro along with Balzer! Now, once I heard that there were numerous PROBST in early Lincoln and Gaston Cos, and that a lady in Iredell Co has a hugh data base on PROBST, I became excited. It is hoped that these CLEMMER, YOUNG, PROBST & DETHEROW families can be tied together and validate these connections. All thoughts and suggestions will be valued. Is anyone on this list familiar with "Stevens" School which may have been either a prep or high school equivalency prior to University of Knoxville? Thanks, Elizabeth Culhane Fairport, New York
I know this isn't Madison county but I never heard from anyone there. Can anyone shed some light on the good Captain....see the following: I have come across an entry in the Madison county tax book Volume 1, 1821-1830. I have found several surnames I am interested in under the notation: Capt. Murchison's Company Esq. Butler Could someone please explain? Hi Ray, I did not receive your LEWIS link.I`ll check out the Knox County Marriage site. Thank you, Greg
Ray--- Thank you for the info about the Walker`s.I have been looking at the possibility of a connection to the LEWIS family. I am somewhat in the dark and trying to use available possible leads. My ancestors were Solomon George,1757-1830 and Peggy (Crawford) George,1774-1826 of Knox Co.,TN.They had 4 sons: 1.Samuel C.S.George,b. 1808 2.Andrew L.W.George,b. 1810 3.Wiley B.Blunt George,1812-1880 ( my ancestor) 4.Pleasant M.G.George I have found a Pleasant Walker in the 1820`s in Knox County and believe he might be related through the Crawford family.I believe that the "L" in the name of Andrew L. W. George might be for LEWIS and the "W" in his name might be for WALKER. You have given me some good leads and I wish to thank you very much. Most Cordially, Greg George GGSAR@aol.com

Hi, I am searching for my great-grandfather, WILLIAM HOUSTON JONES. His mother was MARGARET JONES and his father was an unknown HOWARD. They were not married. He was raised by his grandparents, WILLIAM JONES and MARTHA 'PATSY" JONES. He was born on April 15, 1873 at Morgan County, Tennessee and died January 7, 1940. He was married to NANCY ANN HOWARD. Ring a bell? Also, you might want to explore my cousin's website: http://johnsrealmonline.com/genealogy/main.html He is very young, in college and has a great website. He includes a lot of sources, and cemetery photos. There are a ton of Tennessee Howards on there. He started doing genealogy in high school. Before computers. I am going to give a little plug to my cousin, John Brown's website. I met him online through GEN-NEWBIE. He started his genealogy project in high school without a computer. They traveled the State of Tennessee taking pictures in cemeteries, gathering information, etc. His site really took shape last year. He sites a lot of sources. The main state is Tennessee, however there are others. http://johnsrealmonline.com/genealogy/main.html
Does anyone know of a Walker Family connection to the Crawford Family who lived in Knox County,TN. ca. 1790`s-1820`s? I am descended from Moses Crawford of Knox County,Tn. who died in 1821.He had several brothers and they appear to have been in the Watauga area in the 1770`s.Walker seems to be a name connected to at least one branch of these Crawfords.I am trying to determine where the Crawford/Walker connection may enter. The Crawfords are married into my George line in Knox County and Walker might be one of the middle names of one of my George uncles born abt. 1810. If any of this sounds familiar please contact me. Thank You, Greg George GGSAR@aol.com
