Hi Judy, My aunt, Bessie Kate Elmore Spoone, was the daughter of Mynat Harrison Elmore and Alice Davis. The earliest record I have on the family is the 1910 Jefferson census, Ninth Dist., ED 78, family and dwelling 76, p. 189B. Since I'm only related to this family by marriage, I haven't pursued it further. If the Elmores came from Orange Co., NC, that's interesting to me because my mother's Spoon family came from neighboring Guilford Co. There is at least one Dukes family in Morristown, Hamblen Co., next door to Jefferson. I'm also related to them by marriage, but I have no further information. Thanks for the info. I'll pass it on to a cousin who's descended from the Elmores.
