No one seems to have uncovered the exact location of his birth, which was 11 August 1818 and died in 1861 could it be, that he was of Native American Heritage, the date you give and the location, is significant with alot of upheaval between the whites and the Cherokee Nation. I suggest you go to this site, ( http://www.tolatsga.org/Compacts.html ) and by reading the histories for the locations, you will find alot of detail in which to concentrate. I only came to this message board in my seach for the Native American Name of Chelnessa, Manassah comes from Genesis Chapt 49

Have traced my line to Obidiah Ward who married Nancy Woods in 1830. They went to Providence Church in Jefferson County where my gg grandfather met his bride to be, Elizabeth Romines frm Sevier County. Where the church stood is now under Douglas Lake. The children of Obidiah and Nancy were: Mary, Elizabeth John, Isaac, Enoch, James and Minny. I think that Obidiah's father was John Ward b. in Maryland. He lived just a few houses from Obidiah in the 1850 census.

His name was Henry Cox born in PA around 1760 of German ancestry. His son, Nathan Cox married a Sarah Wheeler in 1823 in Jefferson Co., Tennessee. Unfortunately we do not know the names of Henry Cox's brothers and sisters or his father's name. We believe Henry died in Siever Co. or Jefferson Co., Tennessee. His descendants then moved to Giles/Maury Co., Tennessee and then branches settled in Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama.
